Overview
The Centre for Bible Interpretation and Translation in Africa (CEBITA) awaits applications for a postdoctoral fellowship for 2010. The candidate will do research on a full-time basis on the theme: “The Bible between academy and faith communities”. This exploratory study will investigate the modes of interface between academic and non-academic engagement with the Bible.
Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Old Testament or New Testament or Bible-related specialisation field which was obtained not more than five years ago (or alternatively, official proof that the requirements for a doctoral degree have been met successfully).
Requirements
- Proven research capability;
- Skill in qualitative research methodology;
- Proven interest in the modes of interface between academic and non-academic reading of the Bible;
- Fluency in Afrikaans and English;
- Proven knowledge of internet and website maintenance.
Recommendations
Doctoral degree preferably obtained at another university than the University of Stellenbosch;
Knowledge of another South African language.
Scholarship
A scholarship of R156,000 will be awarded for 2010. (Should the expected research outputs be delivered and progress be made in 2010, the fellowship may be extended for another year.)
Documentation that should accompany the application:
- Full CV with indication of research experience and research outputs;
- Letter of reference from supervisor of doctoral study;
- Report from another referee;
- Official proof of doctoral degree award (alternatively: official proof that requirements of doctoral study have been met successfully);
- Summary of 5 pages on the research that was done in the doctoral dissertation.
