Fulbright Grant for Russian International Education Administrators

Overview

The Fulbright Program encourages Russian administrators from offices of international programming (otdeli mezhdunarodnykh sviaz') to submit applications for the Russian International Education Administrators (RIEA) Program. This unique program is geared towards individuals who facilitate international exchange programs, including hosting foreign students, professors and visiting guests as well as providing information and support to Russian students, faculty and administrators in traveling abroad for academic study and research.

The Fulbright Program in Russia sends approximately 150 Russian graduate students, teachers and professors, and administrators to the United States annually, and we rely upon the support and professional skills of university international offices all across Russia to aid us in distributing information about grant opportunities and in encouraging and supporting Russian participants during the application process and once they are selected as grant recipients. These same international offices are of great service in helping Russian universities host American Fulbright fellows each year and supporting American and other foreign visitors to their universities each year as well.

The Russian International Education Administrators program provides an opportunity for you to become acquainted with the working practices of international student departments in American universities. Young professionals with experience working in an international department at an institution of higher education in Russia and who intend to continue their career in the field of international education, as well as more experienced staff looking to improve their qualifications, are encouraged to apply for this unique opportunity to participate in a 3-4 month intensive training session in the United States.

Grant recipients will participate in seminars and discussions with working specialists at a leading university in the United States (past participants have been hosted at Columbia University’s Teachers College) where themes such as intercultural interaction, international recruitment strategies, and problems with insurance, medical care and safety issues for foreign students will be discussed. Following the group seminars, fellows will be individually placed at leading U.S. universities, where they will acquire hands-on experience working with international students and visitors, and where they may practice speaking English in a professional and cultural environment, while familiarizing themselves with American university life.

Program Goals:

- Gain critical knowledge surrounding the needs of international students in the areas of academic placement
