UK: Master of Design: Innovation and Creativity in Industry at Cranfield University - School of Applied Sciences

Overview

The Centre for Competitive Creative Design (C4D) at Cranfield University offers the Master of Design (MDes) Innovation and Creativity in Industry, a specialist postgraduate programme developing business leaders able to exploit creativity to achieve organisational effectiveness.

The MDes aims to bring the design sector’s prominence in creativity, innovation and design thinking to decision-maker and influencer positions in industry. It strives to enable design and engineering graduates to access a greater breadth of career opportunities, from managers of people to specialist functions such as design managers or creative engineers
MDes students experience aspects of business and industry operations and are taught by internationally leading design and management experts from the Schools of Applied Sciences and Management at Cranfield, by creative experts at University of the Arts London’s, and practitioners from industry, through the Centre for Competitive Creative Design.

Students are able to implement the skills they learn in real creative situations through the group project element of the course, usually sponsored by industry. Previous projects have included NHS resilience - preparing the population for flu epidemic and Procter and Gamble - creative compaction. This part of the course allows students from both the MDes Innovation and Creativity in Industry and the centre’s MDes Design and Innovation for Sustainability to work closely on creative, sustainable solutions.

From 2010 MDes students will benefit from a new purpose built facility for C4D on the central square of the University Campus. It will be a ‘design pavilion’ representing the importance of the creative discipline to all schools within Cranfield University.

Duration: MDes 1 year full time, 2-3 year part time; MTech option lasting 24 months is also available.

Entry Requirements: Candidates must possess, or be expected to achieve, a 1st or 2nd class UK honours degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline. Other relevant qualifications, together with considerable experience, may be considered.
