USA: For Russian Scholars, Researchers and Faculty - The Fulbright Visiting Scholar Grant

Overview

The Fulbright Scholar Program offers Russian citizens grants for the 2011-2012 academic year as a result of an open, merit-based competition for the following types of activities in a U.S. university or archive:

1.Lecturing (including master-classes for those in creative disciplines);
2.Research (including research at the Kennan Institute);
3.Lecturing/research.

Grants are awarded for a period of three to six months. The maximum grant length will depend on the recommendations of the selection committee as well as funding.

The Fulbright Scholar Program is open to

1.Russian scholars, independent researchers and faculty holding a Ph.D. or a Doctoral degree.
2.Professionals in applied sciences and the arts without a degree.

Grants include:

- Monthly stipend
- Limited medical insurance
- Roundtrip transportation to the US


Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must possess all of the following qualifications in order to be eligible:

- Russian citizenship and current residence in Russia starting January, 1 2010. Persons applying for or holding permanent residence in the U.S.A. are not eligible.
Kandidatskaya or doctoral degree in field of study.
- Proficiency in English appropriate for carrying out in the U.S. the proposed lecturing or research project.
- There is no age limit.
- Fulbright Grantees enter the United States on an Exchange Visitor (J-1) visa under a Department of State program and are subject to the two-year home-country residence requirement associated with the J-1 visa. New U.S. government regulations may also limit reentry as a J-1 researcher or professor. Grantees (J-1 visa holders) and their accompanying dependents (J-2 visa holders) who have held J status and been physically present in the United States for 6 months or more are not eligible to apply for reentry as J-1 researchers or professors for 12 months following departure from the United States.
- Preference is given to those without a recent long-term experience in the United States.
- The Fulbright Program Alumni can reapply no earlier than five years after their return to Russia upon the completion of the grant. A Fulbright grant may be awarded no more than twice during lifetime.
- Sound physical and mental health.
- Applicants may not be affiliated with a commercial institution.
- Only individual proposals are accepted.

In addition you should note the following conditions affecting review and selection of candidates:

- Applicants will be considered without regard to race, religion, sex, age, and/or physical impairment.
- Preference is given to those without recent experience in the United States.
- Applicants should be representative and responsible citizens who can contribute to a full and fair picture of the culture of their own countries and thereby contribute to understanding between the people of the United States and their country. They should also demonstrate the cross-cultural sensitivity and flexibility needed to adjust successfully to life in the United States.

How to apply

In order to participate in the Fulbright Scholar Program competition, you must complete the application by July 15, 2010. The application can be completed in one of three forms: using the Online Application, using the Word-version of the application, or as an exception, we can accept a printed set of materials (hard copy).

If there is a difference between the Russian-version and the English-version, please consider the Russian-version correct.
