Denmark: PhD Scholarship in Thermodynamic Modeling of CO2 Capture Systems, Technical University of Denmark (DTU)

Overview

Applications are now invited for a PhD Scholarship within the above mentioned area. The PhD will be part of the Center for Energy Resources Engineering .

The PhD project concerns the thermodynamic modeling of solvent systems potentially used for CO2 capture. In one part of the project, solvent systems that can undergo a liquid-liquid split will be modeled. In the other part, solvent systems that can be used for simultaneous absorption of CO2 and SO2 will be modeled. These solvent systems form electrolyte mixtures with possible precipitation of various solid phases. The modeling is planned to be carried out with the Extended UNIQUAC thermodynamic model for electrolyte systems

The PhD project is part of the EU funded project “Innovative CO2 Capture”, iCAP.

Eligible Candidates

The candidate should hold a master’s degree in chemical engineering. Scientific knowledge within the area of electrolyte thermodynamics is an advantage. Previous experience with ionic systems, especially those relating to CO2 capture will be a great advantage.

Approval and Enrolment

The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

Benefits

The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years. The PhD project is expected to start 1 May 2010.

The workplace is DTU Chemical Engineering located in building 227-229 at DTU in Lyngby. Here the candidate will be part of the scientific staff.
