Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow or PhD student to work on Arabidopsis metabolic network reconstruction in the context of MetaNetX, a SystemsX.ch project focusing on the development of integrated computational methods and tools for the automated reconstruction of genome-scale metabolic networks http://www.systemsx.ch/).
During the last few years, we have assembled databases for qualitative and quantitative information on Arabidopsis proteins (AtProteome; Baerenfaller et al., Science 320: 938, 2008; Reiland et al.,Plant Physiol 150: 889, 2009) and transcripts (Genevestigator®; Zimmermann et al., Trends Plant Sci 10: 407, 2005; Hruz et al., Advances in Bioinformatics, Article ID 420747, doi:10.1155/2008/420747, 2008).
In collaboration with colleagues in Molecular and Computational Systems Biology, we are utilizing this information in MetaNetX for reconstruction of genome-scale metabolic networks, including the prediction of novel reactions and pathways and the leverage of this information for refined genome annotation.
Profile requirements
Candidates must have a strong interest in biology and metabolism. She/he should have a solid foundation in biochemistry, and training in bioinformatics and computational biology. Postdoctoral applicants need to have published at least one first-author paper in an international journal. PhD applicants must have a Masters degree practical experience in bioinformatics and modeling. The successful candidate will benefit from collaborations with colleagues in a currently running EU FP6 project (AGRON-OMICS, http://www.agron-omics.eu/) focusing on network
modeling of leaf development and a new EU FP7 project (TiMet) to model the integration of circadian clock and metabolic pathway regulation.
The position will be available beginning March 2010, for three years.
