UK: Medical Research Council (MRC) D.Phil/PhD Studentships at University of Oxford

Overview

Three DPhil (PhD) studentships are available in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NDCLS) for the 2010-2011 Academic year. The NDCLS contains research teams from a number of health disciplines including Microbiology, Genetics, Cellular Pathology, Haematology and Clinical Biochemistry. All research is directly related to human disease and consists of both fundamental and translational projects. Prospective applicants are directed to the NDCLS website to view the diverse research interests of this vibrant department (http://www.ndcls.ox.ac.uk/ ). Eligibility Criteria

Candidates will have an excellent academic record, at least the equivalent of a good UK upper second class Honours undergraduate degree in biological sciences; have demonstrated enthusiasm for this area and aptitude for research in the biosciences. UK nationals and other EU nationals who have completed three years in the UK on 1/09/10 are normally eligible for these full awards of fees (approximately £5,500 p.a.) and living allowance (Approximately £13,689 p.a. to be confirmed in April 2010).

Non-UK EU nationals are only eligible for fees-only MRC scholarships, and will need to also secure a scholarship or other funding to cover the living allowance.


How to Apply

You will need to apply the studentship program via the main University on-line graduate application form; please note that this incurs an application fee of £25 to the university. The application form, all supporting materials required for the programme (including references) and payment must be submitted by the deadline of March 12th 2010. The closing date for applications is 12 March 2010.

On the application form, in the section headed 'Departmental Studentship applications' you must indicate that you are applying for a studentship and enter the reference code for this studentship 10CLS02JOB

No Research Proposal is required; instead, a personal statement of purpose and study plans, of no more than 1000 words, must be included with the supporting materials accompanying your application. The statement should describe why you are interested in this opportunity, and the qualities, background and experience that you will bring to bear on your doctoral research. Short-listed applicants will be invited for interviews.
