Overview
The University of Nottingham has a well funded PhD position on a Marie Curie Initial Training Network (TEAM) led by University College Dublin. TEAM deals with Training in European Asset Management. The justification for TEAM is that transport demand, both for passengers and freight, is growing strongly worldwide. If we are to meet economic growth targets, and facilitate integration of the European Union, it's important that the European transport network can deal with this continuing growth in demand. However, transport growth using the technologies of today is unsustainable (see: www.ucd.ie/team).
TEAM involves a series of PhD research projects that address key issues facing the transport industry of tomorrow.
Project 1.4: Damage modelling of pavements using stress-in-motion data
Data from the Stress-in-Motion sensor (see: www.ucd.ie/team/doc/Project_1.3.pdf) will be collected, processed and prepared for a consistent data base. After analysis, the data and results will be incorporated into extended and more realistic pavement damage and used to simulate, calculate, calibrate/update and predict remaining service life including future optimisation processes.
