USA: Carol K. Pforzheimer Student Fellowships, Harvard University

Overview

The Arthur and Elizabeth Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America invites Harvard undergraduates to make use of the library's collections with competitive awards of amounts up to $2,500 for relevant research projects. Preference will be given to applicants pursuing research in the history of work and the family, community service and volunteerism, the culinary arts, or women's health. The research may be, but is not required to be, in connection with a project for academic credit.

Applications will be evaluated on the significance of the research and the project's potential contribution to the advancement of knowledge as well as its creativity in drawing on the library's holdings. The awards may be used to cover photocopying, other incidental research expenses, or living expenses in lieu of term time or summer employment, but not the purchase of durable equipment.

Deadline: Applications must be received by Friday, April 16, 2010. Awards will be announced by the end of May 2010, to be used for research at the library from July 2010 through June 30, 2011.

Eligibility: Harvard undergraduates.

Each application must include:

- The Schlesinger Library Grants and Fellowships cover page.
- A project description (no longer than four double-spaced pages in twelve-point font) indicating the purpose of the research, the Schlesinger Library holdings to be consulted, and the significance of these holdings to the project overall.
- A one-page bibliography of principal secondary sources consulted in designing the research.
- A résumé no more than two pages long.
-The name of one reference who has agreed to send a supporting letter directly to the library by the deadline of April 16, 2010.
- A proposed budget indicating how the funds requested will be spent.

Preferred mode of application is via e-mail attachment to slgrants@radcliffe.edu. If possible, please combine application pieces into a single document.

Recommenders should observe the same deadline as applicants. They may send their letters by attachment to the same e-mail address or send a paper copy to Grants Administrator, Schlesinger Library, Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, 10 Garden Street, Cambridge, MA 02138.

The Schlesinger Library is a noncirculating research library that documents the history of American women in the United States and abroad in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It is open to the public and part of the Harvard University Library system. The Library's holdings are cataloged in HOLLIS, Harvard University 's on-line catalog, and the finding aids to its manuscript collections are available in OASIS (Harvard's On-line Archival Search Information System). Both are accessible through http://lib.harvard.edu/.

The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study does not discriminate in admissions, in the administration of its educational policies and programs, or in the selection of faculty, staff, vendors, or contractors, on the basis of any classification prohibited by law or on any basis unrelated to job requirements or the educational purposes of Radcliffe.
