Overview
The Latin American & Iberian Institute (LAII) and the Division of Iberian and Latin American Resources (DILARES) are pleased to invite applications for the Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar award for 2010-2011.
The deadline for applications is Wednesday, March 31, 2010 by 5:00pm.
Each year, the Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar award provides three individuals the opportunity to work as short-term visiting researchers with the University of New Mexico's Latin American library collections, one of the largest and most complete Latin American collections in the country. The award honors Dr. Richard E. Greenleaf, distinguished scholar of colonial Latin American history, and his extensive career in teaching, research, and service.
Eligibility
Invited to apply are scholars (U.S. and international), junior faculty (U.S.) and graduate students (U.S.) who specialize in Latin America.
Duties and Responsibilities
Recipients of the Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar award will work to promote scholarly use of the Latin American collections, focusing on objectives with specific relevance to the UNM Libraries' collections. Recipients will be asked to make a brief presentation to LAII faculty and students during their visit to UNM and to submit a brief 3-5 page summary of their research findings and any modifications made to their original proposal.
Terms of the Award
Through the Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar Fund, LAII provides three separate awards: one long-term (minimum three months) award for $10,000 and two short-term (minimum two weeks) $2,000 awards to help defray travel and housing costs for Albuquerque, New Mexico. Awards will be announced by Friday, April 16, 2010.
Award Criteria
The LAII's Operations Committee will award the grants based on the relevance of the proposal to the unique holdings of UNM University Libraries, the merits and significance of the project, and the applicant's scholarly qualifications. Special consideration will be given to projects that utilize the research materials available through the Colonial Latin American or New Mexican and Southwest documentary collections at Zimmerman Library's Center for Southwest Research. Potential scholars are invited to learn more about the collections by visiting the DILARES website: http://libguides.unm.edu/DILARES. Preference will be given to research projects scheduled prior to September 1, 2010; however, projects may be scheduled up until December 31, 2010.
