Overview
In November 2010, during the annual colloquium of the Institute for the Advancement of Surinamese Studies (IBS), the Surinamistiek Award 2010 will be presented to a leading researcher, from the Netherlands or abroad , who has made a substantial contribution to Suriname Studies. If you would like to nominate someone, please send us their name and a letter of motivation for their nomination in not more than 500 words making reference to the criteria given below. Motivated nominations should reach us before April 15th 2010.
Eligibility Criteria:
• The laureate has written books and articles (preferably also for an international readership) and has made a significant contribution to his/her scientific discipline.
• The publications and research results have been presented in an accessible form (to researchers and a broader audience) and make a substantial scientific contribution to the study of Suriname and Surinamese Studies.
• The publications or research results offer new theoretical insights and/or contain new empirical information.
• The publications or research results have (had) notable influence on the general opinion in his/her scientific discipline.
• The laureate has a Ph.D. and is still publishing and actively engaging in scientific research at the time of being assigned the award.
Preferably this award will be assigned as an oeuvre-award. In exceptional cases this award can be assigned for a specific book.

The objectives of the Institute for the Advancement of Surinamese Studies are to initiate, support, and maintain studies relating to all aspects of Suriname, in particular the languages, literatures, cultures and history.
