Overview
Erasmus Mundus STeDe Master in Sustainable Territorial Development aims to create experts in the area of sustainable territorial development. More concretely it trains professionals to be able to help organizations acting in the territory (enterprises, local communities, civil society organizations) to draft sustainable development policies for economic, social, environmental, international and intercultural management.
The Master concerns the economic competitiveness, social inclusion, environmental protection, international cooperation and intercultural relation challenges of territorial development focussing not only on local communities, but also on enterprises, non-state actors and civil society organizations. It also aims to offer an example of sustainable territory involving all local organizations, which should have human resources available and able to promote sustainable development.
The Master refers to the ability of:
- giving recommendations in the area of sustainable territorial development in the context of climate change and biodiversity loss;
- taking part in the idea, analysis and management of a sustainable development policy on the territory;
- assessing the different validation tools for sustainable development actions and policies within public and private territorial organizations.

Admission criteria
STeDe Master course is open to non-EU and EU candidates.
Candidates are required to have:
- a first cycle academic degree of at least 3 years - 180 ECTS credits (licenciatura, academic Bachelor degree, diploma di laurea di primo livello, licence) or an equivalent degree (diplôme d'école d'ingénieurs, école de commerce etc.), officially recognized by the national law;
- a good command of English and French, both spoken and written;
- a personal interest on sustainable development (see the concerned part in the application form);
- a basic knowledge of information and communication technologies;

Erasmus Mundus Students scholarships
For STeDe Master course 2011/13 approx. 10 Erasmus Mundus Scholarships Category A and 9 Erasmus Mundus scholarships Category B are available. Please note that STeDe Master course lasts 24 months while the scholarship will be awarded for 23 months.
Category A Scholarships for Third-country nationals can be awarded to masters students from all countries other than the 27 EU member states and EEA/EFTA states: Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. Furthermore, candidates must comply with the 12 months rule: they must not be a resident nor have carried out main activity (studies, work etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years (from 28/02/2006 to 28/02/2011 - amended!) in one of these European countries.
Category A scholarships
Contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs
4,000 euro per academic year
Maximum contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage)
8,000 euro per academic year
Monthly allowance (during 12 months/year)
1,000 euro per month
Category B Scholarships for Third-country nationals and for European nationals can be awarded to any masters students who do not fulfil the criteria A defined above, i.e. nationality requirement and 12 months rule.
Category B scholarships
Contribution to travel, installation and any other type of costs
3,000 euro only if a mobility period to a third country is foreseen
Maximum contribution to the EMMC participation costs (including insurance coverage)
4,000 euro per academic year
Monthly allowance (during 12 months/year)
500 euro per month
Visiting scholars
The institutes involved in the Erasmus Mundus STeDe Master welcome applications for visiting scholars.
Living allowance 1,200 euro
(including travel costs)per week for a maximum duration of 3 months
Selection criteria
Main selection criteria will be:
- academic and/or professional excellence;
interest in the topic of sustainable territorial development;
- knowledge of English and/or French language; candidates with good command of both languages will have priority.
- a basic knowledge of economics will be appreciated
