Overview
DTU Informatics would like to invite applications for a 3-year PhD position starting 1st of March 2011. The project is financed by the FTP project “Certifiable Java for Embedded Systems” under # 10-083159.
Project Description
Embedded systems are increasingly becoming part of our daily life. Some of these systems, for example the control of the Copenhagen Metro, are safety-critical, as our real life can depend on it. Such systems need to be certified to be used safely.
The aim of this project is to develop a prototype development environment and platform for safety-critical software for embedded applications. There are three core constituents: A profile of the Java programming language that is tailored for safety-critical applications, a predictable Java processor built with FPGA technology, and an Eclipse based application development environment that binds the profile and the platform together and provides analyses that supports a safety case.
Requirements
Candidates must have a master degree in computational science and engineering (CSE), electrical engineering (EE), applied mathematics, or engineering, or equivalent academic qualifications. Preference will be given to candidates who can document knowledge of real-time systems, real-time Java, and in addition have a background in hardware design with VHDL. Furthermore, good command of the English language is essential.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in the ITMAN Graduate School Programme of DTU Informatics. Information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies is included in the general rules at DTU, which may be obtained here.
Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current Danish rules for PhD degree students.
