Chalmers strategy for excellence in research, education and innovation is structured in eight Areas of Advance. Transport is one of these areas with Traffic Safety as one of three profiles.
Chalmers has a long history in Traffic Safety research with extensive collaboration with industry and society. SAFER – Vehicle and Traffic Safety Centre is the hub and physical meeting place for this collaborative, multi-disciplinary research and innovation.
The vision for the Transport area of advance is to become one of the world´s leading universities regarding green, safe, efficient and effective future transport systems. In line with this we are now opening for post-doc positions in the area of Traffic Safety.
Four of the post-docs are placed in the Department of Signals and Systems, and they are placed in the following research groups: Communication Systems, Mechatronics, Signal Processing, and Biomedical Signals and Systems (see also the position 2010/334,336,337), and this text concerns the position in the Mechatronic research group.
Job description
You will be involved in mainly two research activities, both concerning traffic safety. The first topic is cooperative driving which will be carried out partly together with the other postdocs recruited to the department. The second topic is development of algorithms for detecting critical traffic situation based on sensor signals. Also this research will be carried out in connection with other researchers, both from academia and from industry.
Required qualifications
Required qualifications You have a recent Ph.D. degree in a subject related to any of the fields signal processing, automatic control or mechatronics. You have a good theoretical background and interest to work on real world problems. Experience in traffic safety, vehicle dynamics, data mining, detection theory and filtering is an advantage. Furthermore, an interest in interdisciplinary work with researchers and engineers from other fields is essential, as are skills in simulation techniques and mathematical analysis. You should have excellent command of spoken and written English and have good collaborative skills. Teaching experience is an advantage.
About the Postdoc position
The Postdoc position is an appointment that offers an opportunity to qualify for further research positions within academia or industry. The appointment is for 1+1 years of full-time employment, with a monthly salary paid. Most of your working time is devoted to your own research. Included in your work is also to take part in supervision of Ph.D. students and M.Sc thesis students. Teaching of undergraduate students may also be included to a small extent. You will attend international conferences and meetings, where you will present your own work and establish useful contacts with other researchers. The position can commence immediately.
