Overview
The Rutgers Center for Historical Analysis (RCHA) invites applications from all disciplines for post-doctoral resident fellowships to be held during the academic year of 2011-2012 from individuals working on topics related to Narratives of Power.
Inspired by the election of Barack Obama, this two-year seminar invites a broad historical meditation on the significance of historically marginal and disfranchised groups moving from the periphery to the center of social, political and cultural institutions. This topical theme creates an opportunity for an expansive, interdisciplinary dialogue about intersection, overlap, and conflict across different channels of power and identity, including race, gender, sexuality and class. We welcome scholars from all disciplines, global regions, and time periods for a wide-ranging exploration of themes of identity, narration and power.
Postdoctoral fellows are selected in an annual competition on the basis of relevance of their projects to the research topic, the excellence of their proposals, and their records of scholarly achievement.
Stipends
Postdoctoral fellows receive yearly stipends of $37,000. All fellows have access to the activities and services of the Center. They also are provided with a modest research fund. They will join several Rutgers faculty fellows, Rutgers graduate fellows, and associate fellows in the Center’s ongoing meetings and events.
Postdoctoral fellows are expected to attend the Center’s weekly Tuesday seminars (11 AM- 1 PM), and occasional conferences and lectures. They are also expected to give a presentation at a Tuesday seminar during the period of their fellowship. Postdoctoral fellows also teach one undergraduate class each semester and receive health benefits.
This project welcomes applications from all disciplines and regional specializations. While individual projects need not be explicitly comparative, weekly seminars and the annual conference will focus on broad themes common to the project.
Applications are due on January 18, and the awards will be announced late spring.
