Candidates from all fields of research who have completed their doctoral studies with outstanding results within the last three years may apply. The fellowships are tenable for two years.
Candidates must present an independent research project as part of their application. The research project may be located in one of the core research areas of LMU Munich (e.g. Focus Areas, Areas of High Potential, Cluster of Excellence, Collaborative Research Centers, Priority Programs, research focuses of the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS)), however individual projects are also welcome. Applications may be submitted in English or German. Questions regarding academic integration and the application process should be directed to the Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) at the email address below.
The fellows will become members of the Young Center of the Center for Advanced Studies and be able to make use of its services.

Applicants have to submit a support statement by an LMU professor who will function as mentor during the fellowship. It should not exceed two pages and must include an explicit statement by the support professor to the effect that he or she will provide academic and infrastructural support for the project (including the provision of a workplace) (list of professors).
Research fellows will receive an attractive salary according to the German "Tarifvertrag der Länder (TV-L)" (typically TV-L grade E 14). During the fellowship research funds of up to 45.000 € will be available.
LMU Munich is an equal opportunity employer committed to excellence through diversity and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. Disabled applicants with essentially equal qualifications will be given preference.
Closing date for applications is 5 February 2012.
The prospective starting date of the fellowship is 1 September 2012.
