Overview
The Institute for Transport Studies (ITS), University of Leeds, is offering a full-fees Masters scholarship, to provide a unique opportunity to a student of outstanding ability, achievement and potential.
The UK Transport Scholarship 2012/13 will fund the fees for an UK domiciled student to undertake a Masters programme at ITS, on a one year full-time basis. The scholarship forms part of the ITS mission to advance the understanding of transport globally via the development of skills and best practice. It is anticipated that the scholarship recipient will remain in the UK after completing the Masters programme, to apply their new skills to an area of identified need.
1. Eligibility
a) Applicants must first hold an offer (conditional or unconditional) of an academic place for an ITS Masters degree for the academic year commencing September 2012.
b) Applicants must be designated as ‘Home fee status’ by the University of Leeds and be domiciled in the UK.
2. Value of the scholarship
The scholarship is a full-fees waiver for the 2012-13 academic year, to the value of £4900.
3. Application process
To apply for the scholarship applicants must
a) Complete and submit the relevant scholarship application form, to include:
i) a statement of up to 500 words which outlines an important UK transport issue (policy, technical, social, economic) and proposes a dissertation topic which could make a significant contribution to this issue. The dissertation topic can link to existing research themes at ITS, or be an idea developed by the applicant, and should be novel yet practicable.
ii) evidence of the applicant’s outstanding ability, achievement and potential;
iii) an outline of the applicant’s career aspirations.
b) Provide a supporting statement from a referee
[the scholarship referee should be additional to the academic referees].
Preference will be given to applicants who are not in receipt of any other scholarship and
would otherwise be precluded from undertaking a Masters programme.
4. Terms and conditions
ITS reserves the right not to make a scholarship award or to offer one or more partial fee waivers; the scholarship recipient will be expected support the future development and promotion of the scholarship and ITS, by participating in ITS marketing activities; the academic progress of scholarship recipient will be subject to on-going review - ITS reserves the right to withdraw funding at the end of either semester should academic performance be unsatisfactory; the scholarship cannot be deferred and will lapse if not taken up in September 2012.
5. Deadline
Early application is encouraged and the deadline for application in full is 31st July 2012.
