USA: Williams College | World Bank Scholarships

Overview

In 1987, the World Bank, with funding from the Japanese Government, established the World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (WBGSP) for graduate studies in subjects related to economic development. The scholarship covers tuition, medical insurance, subsistence allowance covering living expenses and books, and economy travel. Application submission deadline is March 31st. Applicants must be a national of a World Bank member country eligible to borrow, meet the World Bank employment restrictions and the following additional criteria:


  • Be under the age of 40 as of the submission deadline.
  • Have, by March 31, at least 2 years of recent full time professional experience acquired after a university degree, in the applicant’s home country or in another developing country.
  • Be in good health.
  • Be of good character.
  • Not be a permanent resident or a national of any industrialized country.
  • Not be residing in an industrialized country for more than one year.

Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree with superior performance (many candidates also have master’s degrees)
  • Work experience on economic development issues, as would be gained for example in central banks, finance ministries, offices of the President or Prime Minister, departments or ministries of agriculture, health, environment.  Applications from the NGO sector also are welcome.
  • Minimum TOEFL score of 550/PBT, 213/CBT, 79/iBT; or IELTS overall score of 6.0
  • Good results on the GRE General Test or GMAT (required if offered as a computer based test in your country, otherwise strongly recommended)
