CBA-Chevening MA Awards for International Students

Overview

The Commonwealth Broadcasting Association is offering three bursaries to full-time staff of CBA's member organisations (Full Members and Affiliates) from developing countries in the Commonwealth for post-graduate courses at City University, University of East Anglia and the University of Westminster.

Please check this list to make sure your organisation is a member of the CBA.

The MA Bursaries offered are in broadcast related subjects.

The scholarship is tenable for one year.

These bursaries are part sponsored by the FCO UK Chevening Programme Westminster, East Anglia, City Universities, International Students House, Good enough College and the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association. The bursaries cover fees and accommodation and give an allowance for food etc.

Please note that airfares of selected bursars will have to be paid by the bursars' organisations or the bursar and a guarantee to this effect must be given.

Applicants must completely fill in the relevant application forms and also provide the evidence of documents needed for the application including references. Applicants must clearly indicate which course and University they are interested in.

Incomplete forms will not be accepted.

Please ensure that you have included the following:

• Completed application form for the University and course indicated.
• Completed CBA- Chevening Application form.
• 4 x passport Pictures for each application.
• 4 copies of each application.
• Include 2 x References with each application.
• Separate Written letter of agreement for a return airfare to be provided by organisation or individual.
• Supporting evidence of experience.
• Copies of Qualifications/ certificates.
• Forms must be downloaded from the CBA site only.
• All forms must be sent to the CBA office (address above) NOT to the Universities.
• Applicants can make three separate applications to each University; each application must included 1-5 above.
• If you do not have a IELTS certificate, then your application & evidence must demonstrate a very good standard of English.

The British Government’s British Chevening Scholarship is the most prestigious award available to Pakistani students for study in the United Kingdom (UK). It enables future leaders, decision-makers and opinion-formers from around the world to become familiar with the UK, to gain new skills, or update current professional skills. Eligibility

Scholarships are awarded to Pakistani nationals of high intellectual ability who will play a formative role in Pakistan’s development.

Applicants:

• must have good English (written & spoken). IELTS will be required if selected for Chevening scholarship.
• must be ambitious, driven Pakistani nationals with leadership skills who are committed to the betterment of their society. 
• must have a Master’s degree or a four-year Bachelor’s degree from any recognised university in Pakistan or the equivalent from an overseas institution. 
• must have a minimum of 3 years of work experience by 1st April 2012. 
• must be Pakistani citizens. Dual nationals are not eligible. 
• must not have received in the past three years any British government funded academic award. 
• must apply online in the subject areas mentioned above. Applications for any other subjects will not be considered.

Duration & Value

British Chevening Scholarships are for one year taught postgraduate study in the UK.

These are full scholarships funded by the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office that cover tuition fees for most courses (up to *£12,000), a monthly stipend, allowances and air travel.

*for higher fees the difference will need to be paid by the candidate.

Chevening Scholarships for Malawi Students

Overview

The African Fellowship Trust (AFT) and the Royal Agricultural College (RAC) are pleased to announce a new Chevening/ African Fellowship Trust Scholarships scheme for the academic year 2012/13.

The programme will identify and provide high level and tailor-made educational opportunities in the UK for outstanding students from sub-Saharan Africa who could become tomorrow’s leaders and innovators in the agricultural, food and natural resources sectors. The targeted countries are Malawi, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The programme involves a post-graduate core component plus networking and placements with the international agricultural and food industries, the financial institutions involved in African agribusiness and development groups.


RAC in the UK provides the academic and networking part of the course running from October to June. From this year the Standard Bank Centre for Agribusiness Leadership & Mentorship Development at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, will manage the industrial placements which will be located in southern Africa.

The Centre will put the Fellows through a short orientation course in southern African agricultural developments and then arrange 6- week placements for them in the agribusiness sector. During the placements the Centre will provide the Fellows with mentoring support.

Chevening/African Fellowship Trust Scholarships

Overview

African Land Fellowship

Since the fellowship programme was launched in 2005, over a million pounds has now been generously provided by donors in support of the programme. This funding has provided for leadership training; the development of professional networks and supporting work experience, together with study opportunities on the master’s programme in International Rural Development at the Royal Agricultural College. All of the Fellows subsequently return to Africa and many are now making significant leadership contributions through their various occupations to managing change in food supply and security, farming, agribusiness, agricultural education and government.

Fellowships are offered to Africans mainly from Southern and East Africa who have experience in agriculture, food or natural resource exploitation and management; an interest in land reform; and a desire to make a strategic and sustainable contribution to Africa's development. In short, tomorrow's innovators and leaders.

The fellowship will cover tuition fees, accommodation, living costs, flights to and from the UK and provision for networking and a short industrial placement in the UK. The Programme is specifically linked to the MSc International Rural Development and the MSc Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security courses.

We are delighted to work with up to ten African Fellows each year from a number of countries including: Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Swaziland, Malawi, Burkina Faso, Mozambique and Cameroon to date.

Applying for a Fellowship

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) have agreed to support the African Fellowship programme for the 2012-13 academic year with five fellowships under their Chevening Scholarship programme. If you are from South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique or Kenya and aspire to strategic leadership in agriculture or rural development in your country, then you are eligible to apply.

Further general information on Chevening scholarships can be found here or through the British Embassy in the above countries. The deadline for Chevening applications is Friday 13th January 2012. If you are not successful in gaining a Chevening award, your application will still be considered for the normal African Fellowship programme.

WHO CAN APPLY ?

You can apply for a Chevening scholarship if:  You are a postgraduate student who can prove your academic success and who has already begun a career in your chosen field. You you have between two and five years working experience (depending on the country you are applying in), with an excellent track record illustrating your achievements and your potential to use the skills gained during your scholarship to make a difference in your country. You have achieved an excellent mark for you undergraduate degree and can provide a transcript of your academic record. Specific academic requirements are available from the British Council offices in your country. You are 21 years or older (there are upper age limits for specific countries so please ensure you check this during your applications process). You are a resident in your country when you apply and provide your birth certificate (with translation). You must have good English language skills (most UK Higher Education institutions require a minimum IELTS of 6.5 for admission into postgraduate courses).
