Overview Embassy of Japan announce that Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports Science and Technology
(Monbukagakusho: MEXT) is offering to Lithuanian citizens 4 kinds of scholarship programs to
study in Japan from April, 2011:
• Undergraduate Students;
• Research Students;
• Specialized College Students;
• Technical College Students
In order to participate in the contest the applicant is required to provide the following documents for Education Exchanges Support Foundation:
Documents in English (required documents are listed in the guidelines of each scholarship
program in the article “APPLICATION PROCEDURE”).

Documents in Lithuanian (one set of original documents)1. Application with personal information;
2. Motivational letter directed to International studies commission.
3. Two recommendations (any format);
4. Curriculum Vitae (CV) (recommended form)
A. Japanese Government (MEXT) Research Students Scholarship
Scholarship for the Research Studies is received for the period of 1.5 and 2 years. 6 months long Japanese language courses for those that have insufficient Japanese language skills are included in both cases. Scholarship for Master and Doctor degree studies are provided for the period required to end the studies, 6 month long Japanese language courses are included, if necessary.
• 22 – 35 years old;
• Bachelor’s degree in any field, received in Lithuanian University;
• Good studying results;
• High motivation;
• Advanced English language skills;
• Basic knowledge of Japanese language;
• Determination to learn Japanese language;
Screening – review of the documents, tests of English and Japanese languages and interview that will take place in June. The announcement about receiving the scholarship is made in January, leaving to Japan - in April of the next year or on the first week of October.
B. Japanese Government (MEXT) Undergraduate University Student Scholarship
The length of studies is 5 years, which includes 1 year preparatory Japanese language courses, and 4 years Undergraduate University Studies of a chosen major in Japanese university.
• 17 – 21 years old;
• High school education;
• Good school results;
• Advances English language skill;
• Determination to learn Japanese language.
Screening – the review of the documents, tests (English and Japanese language – general; math A – for those who have chosen social and humanitarian studies and math B, physics and chemistry/biology for those who have chosen science) and the interview will take place in June. Announcement about receiving the scholarship is made in January next year. Leaving to Japan after receiving visa is on the first week of April.
C. Japanese Government (MEXT) College of Technology Students Scholarship
The length of studies is 4 years, which includes 1 year preparatory Japanese language courses, and 3 years studies of a chosen major in Japanese college of technology. Major should be chosen from the following: 1) Mechanical Engineering; 2) Electrical and Electronic Engineering 3) Information, Communication and Network Engineering; 4) Materials Engineering; 5) Architecture and Civil Engineering; 6) Maritime Engineering; etc.
• 17-21 years old;
• High school education;
• Good school results;
• Advances English language skill;
• Determination to learn Japanese language.
Screening – the review of the documents, tests (English and Japanese language, mathematics and physics or chemistry) and the interview will take place in June. Announcement about receiving the scholarship is made in January next year. Leaving to Japan after receiving visa is on the first week of April.
D. Japanese Government (MEXT) Professional Training College Students Scholarship
The length of studies is 3 years, which includes 1 year preparatory Japanese language courses, and 2 years studies of a chosen major in Japanese professional training college. Major should be chosen from the following: 1) Civil Engineering; 2) Architecture; 3) Electrical Engineering; 4) Electronics; 5) Telecommunication; 6) Nutrition; 7) Infant Education; 8) Secretarial Studies; 9) Hotel Management; 10) Tourism; 11) Dressmaking, Fashion accessories; 12) Design; 13) Photography; etc.
• 17-21 years old;
• High school education;
• Good school results;
• Advances English language skill;
• Determination to learn Japanese language.
Screening – the review of the documents, tests (English and Japanese language) and the interview will take place in June. Announcement about receiving the scholarship is made in January next year. Leaving to Japan after receiving visa is on the first week of April.
Application deadline
Applications must be submitted until June 1st 2010 (Tuesday) to Education Exchanges Support
Foundation, department of Higher Education (Gelezinio Vilko g. 12, LT-02223, Vilnius).
*Important: applications to Education Exchanges Support Foundation can be submitted personally or posted and should arrive not later than the deadline. The preliminary date of exams organized by the Embassy of Japan is 7th – 11th of June, 2010.
