Overview

The 2012-2013 Norwegian government provides students from developing countries in the South and countries in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and in Central Asia with financial support to study for a degree in Norway under the Quota Scheme. The Quota Scheme currently provides funding for a total of 1,100 students, 800 of them from developing countries in the South and 300 from countries in the Western Balkans, Eastern Europe and in Central Asia.

The main objective of the Quota Scheme is to contribute to capacity building through education that will benefit the home country of the students when they return. The Quota Scheme is also intended to strengthen relations between Norway and the selected countries and thus contribute to internationalisation at Norwegian institutions of higher education.

Most universities and university colleges in Norway participate in the Quota scheme. The institutions involved are allocated a certain number of students under the programme each year. The scheme normally includes courses at Master’s and Ph.D. level in addition to certain professional/Bachelor’s degrees. Most of the Norwegian institutions offer courses and educational programmes in English.

Finding a study programme/institution of interest

See the participation institutions’ websites to find more detailed information about the study programmes, available courses, admission requirements and application procedures concerning the Quota Scheme. You may also search the online Master’s programme catalogue which provides an overview of all study programmes at Master’s level that are offered in English at Norwegian universities and university colleges.

All inquiries should be directed to the International Office at the institution in question. Applications should be sent directly to the institutions and SIU is not responsible for received applications.

The deadline for applications for the Quota scheme is usually 1 December every year. Some courses and educational programmes may have other deadlines.

Recruitment enrollment

The Quota Scheme will only enrol students from institutions (organisations, universities, authorities) which have collaboration agreements with Norwegian universities or university colleges. Norwegian institutions usually do not admit free movers (individual applicants) to this scheme. Only in very special cases will free movers be considered. Please contact the institutions directly for individual information.

Students who come to Norway as self-financing students will, as a rule, not be considered as being qualified for the Quota Scheme.

To find out which institutions collaborate with Norwegian institutions, please refer to the websites of the Norwegian institutions. You could also ask your home institution about whether they have any sort of collaboration with Norwegian universities / university colleges from the list of participating institutions.

Scholarships for students

Each student receives the same amount of money as a Norwegian student would do in an equivalent educational programme. 40 per cent of the amount is given as a grant and 60 per cent as a loan. However, the loan portion may be waived when the student returns to his/her home country after completing the course of study. Students who stay in Norway after finishing their studies or take up residence in another country than their home country must repay the loan. Normally, the financial support given will not exceed a time span of four years for one definite study plan or a combination of two programmes. Part-time studies are not supported.

Travelling expenses for entry into Norway may be reimbursed (fixed price). Students can apply for one annual home visit if the educational programme lasts longer than one year and for financial support for travelling expenses for field work during the course of study. When the student returns home within 3 months after finishing his/her studies, the cost of travelling home is covered by the Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund.

The Quota Scheme includes developing countries as defined by OECD (the DAC-list) as Least Developed, Other Low Income and Lower Middle Income Countries. In addition, South Africa, Russian Federation, Brazil and Cuba are included in the Quota Scheme. Be aware that China is on the list, but students from Taiwan are not eligible for the scholarship.

Basic general requirements

As a student, you must apply directly from your home country. You must have stayed at least one year in your home country directly prior to the planned course of study at the Norwegian university /university college. To be eligible to apply for the Quota Scheme, you must be able to find your home country on this list.

Students usually apply for degree programmes that serve as a continuation of their studies in their home country or for courses which can be a joint part of a degree programme in their home country (joint degree or sandwich programmes). Most of the programmes offered are at Master’s or PhD level, but the Quota Scheme also offers certain Bachelor’s study programmes.

All candidates should typically have the following basic qualifications:

• Secondary school certificates
• Minimum two years of higher education from their home country

Some exceptions apply for certain professional educational courses at Bachelor’s level.

The GSU-list (has been compiled by the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance in Education - NOKUT) with the general entrance requirements for applicants with higher education qualifications from abroad. NOKUT is the Norwegian governmental organisation for recognition of foreign higher education. If you cannot find your academic papers on the list you may contact NOKUT directly to get an evaluation of your certificates.

Basic language requirements

Most of the study programmes offered under the Quota Scheme are taught in English. Applicants who are not native English speakers therefore must document their proficiency in English. Requirements may differ between institutions and various study programmes. Please see the university /university college’s website for more details about language requirements.

A few courses in the Quota Scheme are offered in Norwegian and require good skills in the Norwegian language. Students admitted to study programmes that are mainly taught in Norwegian may receive additional financial support for studying Norwegian language for one year prior to their study.

Admission to the Quota Scheme is highly competitive and meeting the minimum requirements is no guarantee for enrollment.

Erasmus Mundus (NordSecMob) Scholarships for International Students

Overview

NordSecMob - Master's Programme in Security and Mobile Computing is one of the European top-quality Masters Courses selected by the European Commission Erasmus Mundus Programme. Erasmus Mundus, which is a co-operation and mobility programme, both promotes the European Union (EU) as a centre of excellence in higher education around the world and supports European top-quality Masters Courses. Erasmus Mundus programmes offer culturally enriching higher education opportunities for both European and Non-European students. Students from any country can apply to the NordSecMob - Master's Programme in Security and Mobile Computing. Both European and non-European students have the opportunity to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarships. The NordSecMob-programme gives the students a chance to experience the cultures of two northern European countries.

NordSecMob — Master's programme in Security and Mobile Computing allows students with strong computer science backgrounds to specialize in mobile computing technologies. The mobile computing and communications industry provides the user with tools that make data and communication available anywhere and at any time. This programme is about the technologies and techniques needed to allow the user to benefit from these pervasive technologies in a secure and safe manner. New mobile devices extend mobile communication with powerful computing, enabling new services in new markets.

The programme gives students a broad knowledge of different aspects of modern data communications architectures and their evolution. Key areas in the curriculum are network applications and services, information security, and mobile networking. The students will gain both practical engineering skills and theoretical insight, including capability to follow and apply the latest scientific research. The graduates will be able to design and develop their own solutions for the mobile Internet. The aim of the programme is to grow graduate engineers who will take responsibility for creating the next generations of products and services for the European ICT industry.

The language of instruction is English. Upon completion, students will receive a degree from each of the two universities in which they spent a part of their study (double degree).

The five universities jointly offering this programme are: Aalto University School of Science (formerly Helsinki University of Technology, TKK) in Finland, The Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden, The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), The Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the University of Tartu (UT) in Estonia.

Admission & Language Criteria

UNIVERSITY BACKGROUND

Successful applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree from a university fulfilling the following requirements:

* The university must be an official and recognized part of the national education system.
* The university has to be found on an official list or in an international handbook that is completed by some international organization (e.g. UNESCO)

STUDENT BACKGROUND

Admission criteria to the programme is a high quality Bachelor's degree encompassing a minimum of 180 ECTS credits in Engineering (Computer Science or Information technology) or equivalent studies i.e. a degree consisting of at least three years of full-time studies.

The applicants should have solid knowledge of mathematics (discrete mathematics), programming skills, data structures and algorithms, computer architecture and basics of computer networks. In addition, basic knowledge of the following subject areas will be an advantage: databases and database management, principles of theoretical computer science, logic in computer science, software engineering, operating systems, concurrent programming.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

The language of instruction in the NordSecMob programme is English. The applicants must have an excellent command of English and they must present an official language test report. The acceptable tests are TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) or Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE). No other English proficiency tests are accepted.

• 580 / writing 4.5 (paper-based test)
• 92 / writing 22 (internet-based test)

IELTS

• IELTS minimum score is 6.5, with no section lower than 5.5 (only Academic IELTS test accepted)

The language test requirement (TOEFL, IELTS, CAE, CPE) is waived for the following groups:

The language test requirement is waived for those students who have obtained a university degree (minimum 3 years of full-time higher education studies) taught in English with physical presence in one of the following countries: USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand or in EU/EEA countries. Please enclose a relevant certificate of language of instruction (e.g. diploma supplement) from your university with the application. Please note, however, that English proficiency is taken into account in the selection process and a good TOEFL/IELTS result is an advantage.

ELIGIBLE STUDENTS FOR ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLARSHIPS

Eligible applicants for the Erasmus Mundus scholarships are students who are NOT nationals of the EU member states, the EEA states nor nationals of the candidate countries for accession to the EU. Furthermore, eligible students may not be residents of the EU/EEA/candidate countries, nor may they have, by the end of February of the applying year, carried out their main activities (study, work, etc) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in the EU/EEA/candidate countries.

The 27 EU member states are Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom. The EEA states are Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway. The candidate countries for accession to the EU: Croatia, Turkey and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

WHAT IS THE AMOUNT OF ERASMUS MUNDUS SCHOLARSHIP?

For each student the scholarship amounts to 21,000 Euro per academic year. This includes 10 monthly grants of 1,600 Euro and a fixed amount of 5,000 Euro for fees, travel expenses, relocation costs, etc. For the NordSecMob-programme (lasting two years), the student receives double this amount, i.e. 42,000 Euro.

Category A scholarships (non-Europeans): The scholarship covers the programme fee including insurance coverage. In practice the student receives contribution to travel 8000 € + monthly allowance 1000 € per month for two years (total 24 000 €).

Category B scholarships (EU/EEA nationals, any student not fulfilling category A): In practice the scholarship payment is 500 € per month for two years (total 12 000 €).

NORDSECMOB CONSORTIUM SCHOLARSHIPS FOR EU/EEA NATIONALS

The NordSecMob consortium offers a couple of scholarships (3000-5000 EUR) for EU/EEA nationals. These scholarships will be granted for excellent EU/EEA nationals selected to the programme. Eligible applicants for this scholarship are nationals of EU and EEA countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. All EU/EEA applicants to the NordSecMob programme will be considered as applicants for these scholarships and there is no separate application form for the scholarship.

NORDPLUS SCHOLARSHIPS

The students selected to the NordSecMob programme (all nationalities except Erasmus Mundus scholarship holders) can apply for the Nordplus scholarship for the duration of their stay (from 4 to 10 months) at the host university (i.e. for the mobility period). The selected students will be informed about this possibility once they have started their studies at the home university. These scholarships are subject to funding from the Nordic Council of Ministers.

Nordplus scholarship is not sufficient for covering the full living and studying expenses. Normally, the maximum Nordplus scholarship amount is 330 EUR for travel costs + 200 EUR/month for accommodation and living costs. The students must have sufficient funding already when they apply for a residence permit (non-EU citizen) and the Nordplus funding can be applied for only after enrollment to the programme.

Required Documents

Applicants must fill in the web-based online application form (basic student and degree information) and then send the signed paper copies to theConsortium Admissions Office at Aalto, including the following documents:

1. Officially attested copy of original Bachelor of Science degree certificate (+ graduation certificate if separate document)An attested copy of your degree diploma or certificate in the original language must be attached to your application. If the document is in a language other than English, you must also submit an authorised translation of the degree diploma or certificate.Applicants who graduate after the application deadline can apply if they will graduate by the end of July of the applying year. The Bachelor of Science degree must be entirely completed by the end of July. If you are selected to the programme, you will need to send us a certified copy of your degree certificate by the beginning of August. If you do not have the completed degree by the application deadline, you must:
   
   a) assemble a list of courses + descriptions of courses that will appear in the final transcript, but are not in your current transcript
   b) append a description of your thesis/final project work (if such thesis/work is included in your degree normally), preferably signed by the supervising professor
   c) ask your supervisor to provide a letter stating that your thesis/final project will be completed by xx date and then you will fulfill the requirements of graduating
   d) include an officially attested copy of original secondary school (high school/upper secondary school) leaving certificate and its authorized translation in English
   
   Applicants who have completed a second degree after the Bachelor's degree are requested to provide also the official true attested transcripts and degree certificates of that degree.
   

   
   
2. Officially attested copy of original study transcript (courses in the B.Sc. degree)An official academic transcript of records or an attested true copy of your official transcript (preferably directly from the university or attested by the university registrar) must be attached to the application. If the transcript is in a language other than English, an authorised translation of the transcript must be submitted. An academic transcript of records is an official document containing information on the courses taken and the grades and credits awarded.University degree from Cameroon, Canada, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Nigeria, Sudan and USA: Only official transcripts sealed by the university and sent directly from the university to Aalto University will be accepted.University degree from Pakistan: If your degree was awarded in Pakistan, the degrees/transcripts and diplomas awarded have to be attested by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan. Each page of the transcript of records and the degree certificate/diploma has to be stamped and signed by HEC. The translations must be made by an authorised translator and they have to be submitted in original or as attested copies.
   If your documents have been attested by HEC after February 2009, you can provide photocopies of the documents, because the attestation can be verified from an online service. In case your documents have been attested by HEC before February 2009, you have two options: you can send the copies with the original attestation or send the copies of HEC attested documents which have been officially verified by a Notary Public. In this case the verification by the Notary Public has to be original; copies of verified copies cannot be accepted.


3. Officially attested transcripts and degree certificates of a possible second degree after the Bachelor's degree (if applicable).If you have taken another degree after you Bachelor’s degree, please provide an officially attested transcript and degree certificate. If you have any further university master level studies after your graduation, please include an attested transcript. If you do not have a transcript of your current studies yet, please include a short description of your studies, a list of courses you have taken and a certificate of attendance.


4. Motivation letter / statement of purposeThe motivation letter is part of your online application form. You can prepare the letter in advance (max. 4000 characters) and copy-paste it directly to the online form. In the letter of motivation, please outline your academic and professional reasons for applying for admission to the programme.


5. CVA summary of your academic and work history with contact details.


6. Two academic recommendation letters in sealed envelopes with contact information (including email address of the referee)The recommendation letters should be written by a person who has supervised you in either academic or employment capacity and at least one of the recommendations should be written by a university professor or lecturer. The recommendation must be an original document: photocopies are not accepted. The recommendation letter can be freely formulated.


7. University course descriptionsThe academic evaluators would like to check the content of your courses from certain subject areas as quite often the course titles in the transcript are not informative enough. The subject areas are: mathematics (discrete mathematics), programming, data structures and algorithms, computer architecture, computer networks, databases and database management, principles of theoretical computer science, logic in computer science, software engineering, operating systems and concurrent programming.

8. Photocopy of the applicant's passport (personal data page)If the passport is not available, the applicant must attach a certified copy of identity card or other identity document (with photo) including information on nationality.


9. Photocopy of a residence permit to EuropeIf you have a residence permit to some European country, please include a copy of the permit in your application documents (non-European applicants).

11. Attested copies of relevant work certificates or other relevant activities (if available)If you have work experience or other activities (publications, patents etc.) that could support your application, please include copies of these documents in your application. On work experience, please attach only true attested work certificates.


12. GRE test result (if available)GRE is not a requirement, but if you have taken the GRE test, you can attach a copy of your results to the application. A very good GRE test score may support the application, especially GRE Computer Science.

Documents 1 - 3 and 10 must be officially attested / certified copies of the original documents. An attested or certified copy is a copy that bears an official stamp and signature of an authorised university official (degree administration / examinations office or equivalent department) at the issuing institution, or a Notary Public. Certifications and statements given by professors or the head of department will not be accepted. Do not send your original documents. Application documents will not be returned. If your degree was awarded in Pakistan, your degrees/transcripts and diplomas awarded have to be attested by the Higher Education Commission in Pakistan. Each page of your transcript of records as well as your degree certificate/diploma has to be stamped and signed by HEC. The translations must be made by an authorised translator and submitted in original or as attested copies.

Recommendation letters must be submitted in original.

TOEFL language test report must be sent directly from the testing center, IELTS results can be sent as a copy with the application.

All required documents in any other language must be translated into English. All translations must be officially certified and accompanied with the certified copy of the original document.

The Consortium Admissions Office at Aalto University will check all applications to make sure they fulfill the formal requirements. Please note that you should not send your original university degree certificate as the Consortium Admissions Office will not return any application documents. Include an attested copy instead. Please enclose your paper application with all the required documents to one envelope and avoid unnecessary staples and clips in order to expedite the processing of your application. Incomplete applications will not be processed.

The applicants will apply for admission in one specific consortium institution, denoted as the "home institution" (Aalto, KTH, NTNU) and in addition, they must specify in order of priority which host university (Aalto, KTH, NTNU, DTU, UT) they are interested in already in the application phase.

Registration

1. Go to the online application service (https://eage.aalto.fi)
2. Register as a user of the application service (Register -> Create a local user account)
   
   • E-mail will be used for contacting you during the selection process. It is very important that you use an e-mail address that is valid through the entire selection process.
3. When you have filled in the registration form, the application service will send a confirmation link to your e-mail address. Follow the instructions in the e-mail to complete the registration.

Applying

4. After your registration is complete the system will direct you to the right form automatically. You can also find the forms from the system navigation by selecting Forms -> Application forms: applications to Master's Programmes -> NordSecMob application 2012.
5. Fill in the online application form and follow the instructions below to submit it:
   • In the application form, you will be asked about your personal contact information and your educational background.
   • The motivation letter is part of the online form: you can prepare it in advance (max. 4000 characters) and copy-paste it directly to the online form.
   • Your session will expire in 120 minutes if you do not keep it active. Unsaved data will be lost.
   • You can save your application form even if it is incomplete, and it is possible to return to modify your application data before submitting it.
   • After you have completed the application form, click the Save button.
6. When you are ready to submit your application form, click the Save button on the case details page.

You cannot print out the form before it is submitted!

7. After you have submitted your application, you must print out the form. You can do this on the Case details tab. Download the application as pdf file and print it. In some internet browsers you must first save the downloaded pdf file to your computer (right click pdf icon -> save as) and open it from there before printing.

8. Sign the application form and send it to Aalto University Student Services Office with all the required documents so that your application arrives by the deadline. Send your application and the required documents to:

Monitoring your application status

9. When your paper application with the required documents has arrived at the Aalto University School of Science, it will be checked. Only eligible applications will proceed to the academic evaluation. Not eligible applications (for ex. if required documents are missing, the application is not eligible) are rejected at this stage.
10. You are responsible for checking the status of your application yourself! If you notice that some documents are missing from your application, you should send the missing documents by the deadline. You can monitor the status of your application in the online application system by logging in and choosing Monitoring application process on your Case details page.
11. During the selection process, we are not able to comment on individual applications or their position. The selection process schedule is available on the programme website.

12. If your contact information changes during the selection process, you are responsible for updating it in the online application system. You can update your information by logging in to the application system and selecting User details from the navigation tree on the left. You must confirm the changes with your password. Please note that if you change your e-mail address, your username will remain the same (i.e. the e-mail address you used when registering).

Erasmus Mundus (CHOREOMUNDUS) Scholarships for International Students

Overview

CHOREOMUNDUS: International Master in Dance Knowledge, Practice and Heritage - has been awarded funding by the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA), an organisation that manages European funding opportunities and networks in the fields of education and training, citizenship, youth, audiovisual and culture.

Choreomundus is a two-year full-time programme, taught in English in Norway, France, Hungary and the UK. Choreomundus focuses on fieldwork and formal analysis of movement, and engages with a variety of theoretical and methodological frameworks. The programme develops an appreciation of dance that is comparative, cross-cultural, applied, and embodied, and gives students the tools for making sense of intangible heritage within a culturally diverse world.

The programme aims to provide practical skills to observe, analyse, document, and evaluate dances. It will equip students to analyse dance as knowledge, practice and heritage and to promote different modes of knowledge transmission adapted to local contexts. A broader aim is to equip students for global challenges and cultural encounters. Employment opportunities exist worldwide within higher education and research, heritage and tourist industries, local and national agencies and public bodies which deal with safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Admission requirements

Applications are invited from individuals who have:

• A first degree (equivalent to 180 ECTS) from a recognised higher education institution (university, college, conservatoire...) preferably in dance studies, anthropology, folklore, heritage studies or in related subjects (drama and/or theatre, music, sports and human movement studies, sociology, cultural studies) or equivalent professional experience.
• English Language qualification equivalent to the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Level 6.5 in each band (Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking). See right hand column.
• Two letters of recommentation supporting their application.
• Expertise in or understanding of dance or related movement practices (rituals, games, martial arts and physical theatre) which can be demonstrated through one or more of the following:

1. a DVD or online film/video clip of no more than three minutes duration, showing their own dancing, choreography or other relevant performances or productions, or their teaching
2. an essay of no more than three pages long, focusing either on the contextual and/or movement aspects of a dance or other related practice
3. a relevant publication

Selection criteria:

Students will be selected on the following basis:

1. First degree grades accounting for 50 % of the final decision
2. CV including achievements in the field of dance or other relevant cultural, performance or movement practices confirmed by submitting a DVD/online film clip, an essay or other attestation: accounting for25 % of the final decision.
3. Personal statement accounting for 25 % of the final decision

Grades are assumed to mirror the applicant's academic competence, but not necessarily their competence in the field of dance or other movement practices. A personal statement, describing their dance background, their reasons for applying and their future plans will reveal their motivation as well as their command of English. The CV and DVD/ essay will help the Admission team in selecting the highest achievers.

In accordance with Life Long Learning Requirements, students may be admitted based on a combination of formal learning/education and approved prior learning and work experience.

Candidates should take into consideration that with a limited number of funded places on offer, not all applicants accepted onto the course will be awarded a scholarship, especially since the EU restricts scholarships to two per country in order to ensure geographical diversity.

Deadlines - Erasmus Mundus Scholarships

Choreomundus will start with its first group of students in August 2012. A number of scholarships for students from all parts of the world, including Europe, will be available.

Deadlines for online application for the 2012-2014 Erasmus Mundus Choreomundus Master's programme:

Deadline 1: 16 January 2012

• Non-EU students applying for a Category A Erasmus Mundus Scholarship - 48,000€ for the two-year course.
• EU students applying for a Category B Erasmus Mundus Scholarship - 20,000€ for the two-year course
• Non-EU students who have been resident in the EU for a minimum of 12 months, applying for Category B Erasmus Mundus Scholarship - 20,000€ for the two-year course.

The list of selected candidates is published on the website after validation of the consortium selection proposal by the agency (EACEA).

Deadline 2: 19 March 2012

• Non-EU self-sponsored students.
• EU self-sponsored students.

Self-sponsored students are applicants who do not apply for a Choreomundus scholarship, and who will find other sources of funding (personal, from their employer or another agency)

Erasmus Mundus (IMRCEES) Scholarships for International Students

Overview

The International Masters in Russian, Central and East European Studies (IMRCEES) is a 2-year (4 Semesters) multi- and interdisciplinary double degree programme. It is intended for students wishing to pursue a career in government policy-making, the business world, diplomatic service, international organisations, and media or as preparation for further academic study through a PhD programme. IMRCEES graduates will be equipped with the skills to address the myriad of socio-economic, and political/security challenges of the 21st century in one or more of the following critical geopolitical areas of the European Union and its near abroad/neighbourhood: Central Asia; the Caucasus/Caspian Sea Basin; Russia; and Central and Eastern Europe, including the Baltic SeaRegion.

Flexible and high quality language training is an essential part of IMRCEES. This innovative programme is taught in English, offers an international experience in at least two countries, produces skilled area studies specialists and helps you to acquire a range of key employability skills through its well-developed placements with associate partners from the business, public policy and NGO communities. An array of academic conferences, workshops and other socio-cultural events involving all Consortium partners will help to make the IMRCEES experience a truly rewarding one in terms of making lasting friendships and equipping you for a future professional career.

Who is eligible to apply?

Entry requirements for IMRCEES are a 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification (for example, GPA 3.0 or above) in a relevant social sciences or humanities subject.

Applicants from other subject backgrounds, however, will be considered.

You are expected to provide documentation of a final first degree by the relevant application deadline. A preliminary transcript is accepted as long as it displays that you took all necessary exams to complete the degree programme.

English language requirements

Applicants must provide evidence of proficiency in English in cases where English is not the student’s native language. Applicants whose first language is not English must achieve the minimum English language proficiency level specified by the University of Glasgow. All test results must be no more than 2 years old.

Application form

All candidates for the Erasmus Mundus IMRCEES programme should complete the Consortium’s commononline application form which is the standard University of Glasgow Graduate Studies application form.

Note: IMRCEES is committed to promoting access to applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds or those with disabilities or special needs. Your Curriculum Vitae (European Format) should include details of your academic career, any relevant work experience and significant achievements/awards.

Proof of citizenship is mandatory for all applicants. A copy of the information photo-page of your passport should be scanned and uploaded to the online application form.

Two academic references

Applicants should supply two references (at least one academic and if appropriate, the other may be from the student’s most recent employer). References should be written on officially headed institutional paper. Students are requested to upload the references to the online application form and submit the references with the application and other supporting documentation.

Erasmus Mundus Scholarships

When applying for IMRCEES, applicants are invited to apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship (except if they have benefitted from such a scholarship before). Applicants will be informed if they are awarded a scholarship with the admission notification.

IMRCEES offers Erasmus Mundus scholarships - but the programme is also open to self-funding students. The application process for the first cohort of Erasmus Mundus IMRCEES students will begin in September 2011.

There are two different forms of scholarships, Category A and Category B. The scholarships' terms depend on the student's country of origin/residence and main academic and/or professional activity.

Category A scholarships are available for applicants who

• are neither resident in one of the 27 EU member states or in an EEA-EFTA country (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein)
• nor carried out their main academic and/or professional activity for more than 12 months in any of the EU/EEA-EFTA member states in the last five years.

Category B scholarships are available for applicants who

• are resident in one of the 27 EU member states or in an EEA-EFTA country (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) and/or
• regardless of their residence carried out their main academic and/or professional activity for more than 12 months in any of the EU/EEA-EFTA member states in the last five years.

Apply online

The Consortium will only accept online applications for the IMRCEES programme.

The online application system allows you to fill out the standard application form online and submit this to the IMRCEES Consortium immediately. You should also attach supporting documentation including the IMRCEES Supporting Personal Statement form, references, certificates and a transcript of previous studies. You will find instructions throughout the online form to help you complete your application. You may save and return to your application as many times as you wish before submitting it.

All documents must be submitted in English. Documents which are not originally in English must be accompanied by an authorised translation of the original.

Every single enclosed official document sent as part of the application must be certified as a true copy. An official stamp with the date and signature is required. In general, attestation by the local embassy, the police, a notary public or state or municipal administration agency is accepted. Failure to provide all the necessary documents disqualifies the applicant and the application will not be registered.

Candidates wishing to apply for either a Category A Scholarship – for Third Country (non-European) students or Category B Scholarship – for European students should upload the relevant scholarship form to the online application.

• Register your details. Check that the spelling and lay-out of your personal details exactly match your passport.
• Take a note of your username and password that you created when registering to be able return to the system at any time.
• Each section must be completed before you can submit your application. There are detailed help instructions throughout the system.
• Once you have registered your details and created an account you can log back into the online application system to view any applications that you submitted or saved to complete later, or to upload additional documents.
• You can view the documents you have already submitted and upload additional documents at a later stage (final transcript, language test, etc). Use one of the unused document fields if necessary. The size of individual documents should not exceed 1MG. DO NOT email additional documents, simply access your application again and upload them.
