Overview
The LLM in Maritime and Marine Law allows students to take a taught LLM, traditionally structured around taught modules of 120 credits, followed by a 60-credit dissertation. Modules include the traditional maritime law subjects, a range of other maritime and marine law options, and the option to take up to 40 credits of shipping and trade related modules taught at Plymouth Business School.
Students have a free choice of which of these modules to take to make up their 120 credits, but students can choose to specialise in either maritime or marine law, in which case they will be entitled to either an LLM in Maritime Law or an LLM in Marine Law.
The LLM in Maritime and Marine Law Practice has a larger research element and a greater practical basis than the LLM Maritime and Marine Law. It is structured around taught modules of 60 credits, and a 120 credit dissertation, and is intended for those who already have careers in a related area. Both schemes allow the option of part time study, which should appeal to busy professionals who wish to add an LLM to their list of qualifications.
Programme Highlights
•the opportunity to combine 60 credits of taught modules with a piece of supervised research
•the possibility of concentrating the taught element into one day a week
•the opportunity to take the LLM part time, over two years
Duration 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time
Entry requirementsA second class degree in law or a cognate discipline or equivalent qualification. Overseas applicants will need: IELTS 6.5 or above or TOEFL 575 (paper-based test) or 232 (computer-based test) or 90 (internet-based test).
