New Zealand: 2010 Vista Linda Doctoral Scholarship at The University of Auckland

Overview

2010 Vista Linda Doctoral Scholarship at The University of Auckland. The Scholarship was established in 1999 by Mr Antonio Regueiro Diaz, Esq.

The purpose of the Scholarship is to assist students financially in carrying out their PhD Research in a Spanish-speaking country. The Scholarship shall be awarded to a PhD candidate who is enrolled and who has paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for study in the Department of Spanish Languages in the year of the Award. The basis of selection shall be academic merit and the scholarly merit of the research proposal.

How to apply

Applications by way of a letter close with the Head of Department of Spanish Languages on 15 October in the year prior to the year of award. The application must include a curricum vitae, a description of the research project which also include information of previous research in the similar or related fields, with preliminary bibliographic data, progress of the project to date, likely outcome of the trip in question and an explanation as to why it is necessary to carry out the research in the chosen geographic locale(s). The application must bear a statement of support from the candidate's Thesis Supervisor.

Decision makers

The Scholarships shall be awarded by the Council upon the recommendation of a selection committee comprising the Head of Spanish and two other academic staff from the Department of Spanish (preferabley neither of whom is involved in the supervision of the competing candidates.)

Value of Award: $5,000 towards research expenses

Tenure:One year

How and when do students learn of the decision?

The result of the application should be announced by 15 December in the year prior to the year of Award. The Scholarships emolument shall be paid in a lump sum around 2 months before the Scholar goes overseas.



What conditions are attached to acceptance of this award?

Upon returning to New Zealand, the Scholar undertakes to submit to the Head of Spanish Languages a report (about 2-3 pages) on the Scholar's experience, indicating the extent to which goals were accomplished and recommendations as to how the aims of the Scholarship can be better achieved in the future.
