Overview
The Master’s Course in European Literary Cultures - CLE aims at preparing European and International graduates for professions in which is requested the knowledge of: at least three languages the different methodologies in at least three cultural fields as for example:
History of Literature, Texts Analysis, History, History of Art, History of Ideas.
Objective
The main objective of the Master Course is to train a cultural operator / a researcher / a teacher to have a good range of methodologies and a high cultural appreciation of the different contexts of European culture which enable a comparison with other cultures.
The main characteristic of this profile is the combination of the historical-linguistic skills, also at an advanced level, and a high knowledge of other disciplines. These profiles are characterized by the continual application of the linguistic and cultural skills within an analytical and critical perspective.
European and international graduates shall be employed in the institutions or foundations aimed to the cultural promotion, both in Europe and Third countries: for example, museums, cultural council offices, embassy offices, Culture Institutes abroad.
The consortium offering this Master’s programme is made up of:

Université de Haute-Alsace (Mulhouse), FRANCE
Université de Strasbourg, FRANCE
Aristoteleion Panepistimion Thessaloniki, ELLAS
PROGRAMME AND STUDENTS MOBILITY
The duration of the full-time programme is 24 months.
Students will spend terms in two or three different consortium universities. The language of instruction varies according to the institutions chosen by the students.
At the end of the Master Course, the consortium universities provide a double or multiple degree.
The programme has four main learning units:
European Literatures, Language
Methodologies and Linguistic Sciences,
European History and Civilization
a Final research work.
Each Institution focuses on a specific subject:
Bologna: Towards a European Literature: Literary Tradition and Innovation
Mulhouse: European Spaces and Cultures: Contrasts and Interferences
Strasbourg: Oratories and Literary Configurations
Thessalonikis: Impact and Reception of Ancient Tradition
Scholarships
A number of scholarships are available for third-country nationals with excellent academic records.
"CATEGORY A SCHOLARSHIPS" (Third-country students)
Category A scholarships can be awarded to masters students selected:1. who come from a country OTHER THAN one of the 27 EU Member States, EEA-EFTA States - Iceland, Norway and Lichtenstein and2. who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one or more of these countries.
The consortium CLE can apply for up to 2 "CATEGORY A SCHOLARSHIPS" under the Western Balkans and Turkey Window
NOTA BENE:Switzerland, Turkey and the Western Balkan region have to be considered as Third-countries.(Communication dated November 19, 2009 - European Commission)
"CATEGORY B SCHOLARSHIPS"
Category B scholarships can be awarded to any masters students selected who do not fulfil the Category A criteria defined above.
Applications for this category will be opened on February 2010
Admission
Students applying for the Master Course CLE must have:
a good level first-cycle degree in a discipline of relevance to CLE,
a recognised level of proficiency in English and in the language of instruction of the consortium institution chosen for the first Master year course. A B1 minimum level is required.
Moreover, applicants mast be able to provide evidence of motivation to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Master CLE.
