Overview A preference will go towards applicants who have not studied previously outside of their home countries. Please note that if you have applied, or are applying, for other grants, fellowships or scholarships with the Open Society Foundations, please indicate this in your application. While you may apply for more than one scheme simultaneously, only one Open Society Foundations scholarship or grant can be awaded for a given period. The following applicants are ineligible to apply: Scholars should obtain information about the relevant degree and its requirements by consulting the University’s Graduate Studies Prospectus, which is available online atwww.admin.cam.ac.uk/univ/gsprospectus/. Application forms (GRADSAF) are available from the Cambridge University website at:www.admin.cam.ac.uk/offices/gradstud/prospec/apply/paper Forms are also available in printed form from the local representatives of the Open Society Foundations. Applicants should review the requirements for individual courses, as additional supporting materials such as written work might be needed. Local representatives of Open Society Foundations will assist you by arranging for your application to be sent to Cambridge, and will also arrange for payment of theapplication fee. Please send your GRADSAF (including all required supporting documents) to the local representatives of Open Society Foundations by November 25, 2011. Applications will not be accepted after this deadline. Applicants should mention Open Society Foundations/Cambridge Scholarships in the funding section of GRADSAF. In addition to GRADSAF, applicants should complete the OSF Cambridge Scholarship Application Form (and all required supporting materials) and return it to the local OSF/Soros Foundation Office/Educational Advising Center by November 25, 2011. Please also enclose with your scholarship application form the Self-Assessment Form whereby you acknowledge your compliance with the eligibility criteria for this scholarship programme. Applications that arrive after this deadline, are incomplete or made to ineligible courses will not be considered for the OSF Cambridge Scholarship. Scholars wishing to submit further applications for other courses must apply to the University directly; applications arriving directly with the university will not be considered for the Open Society Foundations/ Cambridge Scholarships. All completed applications received by local representatives of Open Society Foundations by the deadline will be forwarded to the University of Cambridge. Academic staff at the university will consider the applications for university admission and will compile a shortlist of applicants to be interviewed for the scholarship. Short-listed applicants will be invited for an interview and an English language test in their home country in May 2012. Interviews will be carried out by representatives of OSF–London, and in certain cases, there may also be a panel member representing the interests of the University. Applicants will be informed of the outcome of the scholarship competition in June 2012. Please note that successful applicants will be invited to attend a one-month Academic Writing School organized by Open Society Scholarship Programs in Istanbul in August 2012. The scholarships will cover the University Composition Fee at the overseas rate, approved college fees, a maintenance allowance sufficient for a single student, and one return economy airfare to the UK. No financial support is provided for dependants or family members. The Open Society Foundations/University of Cambridge Scholarships enable students of Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Macedonia, Moldova, Palestine, Serbia, Turkmenistan and Ukraine to obtain a MPhil or LLM degree in a range of subjects within the social sciences and the humanities.
Offered in collaboration with the Open Society Foundations and the Cambridge Trusts (Cambridge Overseas Trust, Cambridge Commonwealth Trust), these scholarships enable students of outstanding academic merit to pursue one-year taught postgraduate courses of study at the University of Cambridge in subjects relevant to the needs of their countries.
