Chinese Government Scholarship - Xiamen University

1. Introduction

The “Chinese Government Scholarship -- University Postgraduate Programme”, a full scholarship set up by the Ministry of Education of China (MOE) in 2008, is aimed at promoting Chinese higher education brand on an international basis. Enrolment is managed directly by China 's key universities. As a key comprehensive university, Xiamen University undertakes the enrolment of international postgraduates under this government scholarship.

2. Eligibility

(1) Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.

(2) Applicants must not be students in Chinese universities at the time of application (or at least one year after graduation in China ).

(3) Education background and age limit:

· Applicants for master's degree studies must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35.

· Applicants for doctoral degree studies must have a master's degree and be under the age of 40.

Currently there are 279 master's programmes and 185 doctoral programmes. Most programmes are taught in Chinese.

★ Scholarship awardees with one year Chinese language course prior to the academic study will have their scholarship extended for one year.
5. Scholarship availability : 45 (including 41 for those who have obtained their last degree outside China and 4 for those who have obtained their last degree in China )
6. Scholarship details
① Exemption from tuition fee, laboratory experiment fee, internship fee, fee for basic learning materials and accommodation on campus;
② Living allowance: RMB 1,700/month/person for master's students; RMB 2,000 /month /person for doctoral students;
③ One-off settlement subsidy: RMB 1, 500/person after registration;
④ Out-patient medical services together with comprehensive medical insurance;
⑤ International travel expenses: self-afforded.

8. Application procedures
Applicants are eligible for scholarship assessment only after they are admitted to the master's or doctoral programme of Xiamen University . (The guidance for admission application is available at http://admissions.xmu.edu.cn : How to apply for master's / doctoral programmes 2012)
(1)Applicants are required to make online application first athttp://admissions.xmu.edu.cn/application, and then download and print the Application Form for International Students generated after successful online application.
(2) Applicants should make another online application at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn(Agency No. of Xiamen University at CSC: 10384), download and print the Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship and then sign the form.
(3) Submission of application documents:
Send by post to the Admissions Office of Xiamen University by March 31, 2012 the two forms and other required application documents.
9. Selection and notification
A panel of experts will be responsible for the scholarship candidates' selection. Scholarship assessment will be on the basis of application documents, applicant's academic performance and overall quality, and their supervisor's opinions. The university will submit a list of scholarship nominees to China Scholarship Council for final approval in late April.
The result is expected to come out in late June and will be timely published on the website of the Admissions Office. Scholarship awardees will be notified via email and their Admission Notice and Visa Application Form (JW201) will be sent out as soon as possible.
