Overview
We have been awarded funds from the EPSRC to create a Doctoral Training Centre (DTC) in Low Carbon Technologies. The DTC brings together a cohort of postgraduate research students and their supervisors to develop innovative technologies for a low carbon future based around key interlinking themes:
-Low Carbon Enabling Technologies
-Transport & Energy
-Carbon Storage
-Climate Change & Energy Systems Research
This is an opportunity for you to study for a 4 year fully funded 'Integrated PhD and MSc' in Low Carbon Technologies within an established campus wide interdisciplinary Institute ‘Earth, Energy & Environment: E³’ and be the first to study within the new £14.8m energy research building.
8 places available for September 2010 entry (see application instructions below).
Includes full fees and a maintenance grant of £15,500 per annum (tax free) for UK students. EU candidates will be eligible for a fees-only award.
Each student will develop high-level expertise in a particular topic but with the excitement of working in a multidisciplinary environment stretching across science, technology, economics, business and policy.
Value and Eligibility
UK students will be eligible for a full award, covering the cost of academic fees (UK/EU rate) and a maintenance grant of £15,500. EU candidates will be eligible for a fees-only award.
Entry Requirements
A Master’s degree or at least an upper second class (2i) honours degree in engineering or a physical science or related discipline degree. (e.g. Engineering; Chemistry; Maths; Physics; Computing; Transport; Environmental Science/Management). Applicants must have been resident in the United Kingdom for at least 3 years in order to be eligible for full funding.

-The course is ‘Integrated PhD with MSc in Low Carbon Technologies FT’-Start date is 1st October 2010-To enter a research interest, please refer to the 4 themes at the top of this page and check that the area you are interested in is appropriate to the DTC.-You may include a research proposal if you have a specific project you wish to follow, however this is not required at this stage. Successful applicants will be sent a list of potential PhD topics later.
