Overview
The Sapienza University of Rome offers n. 16 Ph.D. fellowships for attaining the degree of “Dottore di Ricerca” (Ph.D.) in one of its seventeen Doctoral Schools. Each fellowship amounts to € 19.800,00 per year before tax; this amount includes national insurance contributions (INPS) that fellowship recipients are required to pay (8,57% for 2009). Based on the strength of the applicants, 1 of these 3-year fellowships may be awarded to a student interested in entering the European and International Ph.D. in “Cognitive, social and affective neuroscience” (a brand new program derived from the European Ph.D. Program in “Cognitive Plasticity and Rehabilitation”).
Eligibility
Applications are opened to candidates who:
• are not Italian citizens;
• are not residents of Italy;
• have obtained an academic qualification abroad by a non-Italian institution which satisfies the entrance requirements for admission to the Doctoral Programme, i.e., a degree equivalent to the Italian diploma di laurea/laurea specialistica/laurea magistrale, or expect to obtain it before 31 July 2010. The equivalence of each qualification to the relevant Italian degree will be ascertained (for the sole purpose of this competition) by the Academic Board of the Schools of the Coordination Program for Joint European/International Doctorates, Sapienza University of Rome.
Although the official announcement will be out around March 2010, we encourage the applicants to send ASAP the requested documents (see below) to Dr. Paola Trussardi (p.truss@virgilio.it).
The awardee candidate will start the three-year program on October 2010.
Application
Perspective students should send:
1. a motivation letter
2. a detailed CV
3. at least one (two would be better) recommendation letters from previous supervisors
4. a strong background in computer programming is very valued. Please do not attach documents called “CV” or “Motivation”. Please add your name to the document (e.g. CV_your last name or Application your last name), in order to facilitate the organizational process.
Please write your motivation letter in English as this will help to ascertain your language level. Although recommendation letters are not mandatory, I remind you that your candidacy will of course be stronger and more competitive if you provide these letters. We can contemplate to contact each applicant to organize a pre-interview through Skype.
Therefore, please do send us your Skype contact.
