Overview
We are launching the A&K Safari Scholarship, in association with Tatler Magazine. This annual initiative will give up to three school leavers a unique opportunity to experience Africa's amazing wildlife, culture and way of life.
In line with our heritage and educational values, A&K is offering a unique gap year experience. The successful candidates will work in one of our camps in Africa for a three month period in 2011/12 where they will have the opportunity to appreciate the art of safari from camp operations to client hospitality and the subtleties of bushcraft.
Eligible Candidate
All students who are currently in the lower sixth and are considering taking a gap year from July 2011 to September 2012.
Requirement
Students are invited to submit an essay entitled "Why I am the perfect candidate for the Experience Africa Award". The essay should be no more than 500 words in length and should be submitted by the end of your summer term.
Selection Process
- Each school selects the 3 most impressive entries and sends these through to Abercrombie & Kent (These submissions should be emailed to safarischolarship@abercrombiekent.co.uk by 31st March 2010).
- Abercrombie & Kent will liaise with Patricia Stevenson, the Publishing Director of Tatler, to evaluate all the entries and identify three winners in total from the schools participating in the pilot scheme.
- Please note, we may decide to hold short interviews with a shortlist of potential winners to ensure we select the best candidates.
- The winning candidate(s) will be announced at the beginning of the autumn term.
- The successful candidate(s) will be expected to attend the evening award ceremony which will be held at the Tatler Schools Guide Party in London in the autumn of 2010.
