Overview
The Dean's Scholars Program can give you the competitive advantage over other engineering students by offering a tuition scholarship, tools to develop study and career skills, and access to professional and academic engineering networks.
To be a Dean’s Scholar, you need proven academic and leadership skills. One of the reasons Dean’s Scholars are sought by industry is because they can perform academically, as well as lead and inspire others by practicing what they learn, and driving each other to succeed.
Scholarship
A scholarship for tuition fees is awarded to Dean’s Scholars, who also receive invitations to participate in development activities throughout the year as part of the broader program. The Dean’s Scholars Program can offer:
+tuition scholarship
+ annual leadership dinner
+ company site visits with major industry players, giving you the opportunity to experience engineering environments and high-level engineering management
+ invitations to events relating to industry, associations and engineering leaders
+ close interaction with senior academics (link to mentoring) who have strong industry links
Only students applying for the Bachelor of Engineering from year 12 or gap year are eligible for the Dean’s Scholars Program and must complete the two-part application process to be considered.
Bachelor of engineering
Dean’s Scholars undertake the Bachelor of Engineering course, which incorporates a common first year spanning civil, mechanical and electrical engineering streams.
The common first year allows students more time to make an informed decision about their preference for one of nine engineering specialisations.
Students are encouraged to apply for both the Bachelor of Engineering – Dean’s Scholars Program and the Bachelor of Engineering, as in the event a scholarship is not awarded to an applicant, applying for both courses provides an opportunity for a potential offer to the Bachelor of Engineering.
Conditions
Students eligible for a Commonwealth supported university place who accept a QTAC offer to the Dean’s Scholars Program will receive a scholarship in the form of a fee waiver to study the Bachelor of Engineering. International students successful in gaining entry receive a scholarship for approximately one-third of their tuition fees (equivalent to the cost of a Commonwealth supported place).
To maintain a place within the program, students are expected to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 6.0 or better, with no unit GPA below 4.0
A full copy of the scholarship conditions is made available by the faculty and provides further details of the offer and expectations.
