Japan: Assistant professor Position at University of Tsukuba, 2010

Overview

Gene Research Center, Graduate School of Life & Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba, seeks for three faculty members (three assistant professors) to enhance its GMP research

Gene Research Center, the University of Tsukuba was selected as one of the implementing institutions of the Program for Joint Usage/Research Center initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

Gene Research Center will conduct domestic and international joint researches on genetically modified plants (GMP). The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting these joint researches in the field of GMP.

Content of work:
1. Conduct joint researches in the field of GMP.
2. Provide instruction, supervision and assistance in conjunction with Gene Research Center activities such as seminars, workshops, orientations and symposia, and participate in evaluations of these activities.
3. Other duties as specified by the Director of the Gene Research Center.

General Requirements:

Position I (Specialty: Biotechnology):
1) Hold a Ph.D. or expect to hold a Ph.D. by March 31, 2010.
2) Knowledge and research experiences in the development of plant genetic transformation technology, and ability to conduct joint researches on plant genetic engineering.


3) Experiences of growing a variety of transgenic plants are appreciated.
4) Relevant experiences of plant cell and tissue cultures are appreciated.
5) Ability of English communication, and ability in working Japanese language.

Position II (Specialty: Plant molecular biology):
1) Hold a Ph.D. or expect to hold a Ph.D. by March 31, 2010.
2) Knowledge and research experiences in plant genetics/plant molecular biology, and ability to conduct joint researches on evaluation and assessment of GMPs on biodiversity using special screened greenhouse and containment field.
3) Knowledge in Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and related laws, and ability to handle the related administration documents.
4) Relevant ability of statistics including multivariate statistical analysis, and related statistical analysis used for social science.
5) Ability of information search, organizing international workshop, and communication on English communication UN official languages including English, and ability in working Japanese language is additional merits.

Position III (Specialty: Plant genetic ecology):
1) Hold a Ph.D. or expect to hold a Ph.D. by March 31, 2010.
2) Knowledge and research experiences in plant genetic ecology, and ability to conduct joint researches on environmental risk assessment of GMPs.
3) Relevant ability of data analysis and simulation based on population genetics and statistical genetics.
4) Field research experiences are appreciated.
5) Ability of English communication, and ability in working Japanese language.

Terms and conditions:
1. All assistant Professors are contracted for five years from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2015.
2. Monthly salary as specified by University regulations.
3. All marginal benefits furnished accordingly to Japanese labor laws.
