Overview
The Foundation announces scholarship awards for Japanese students intending to study abroad at a master's course of a graduate school. The general information is explained in this section; however, its details could change year to year. Therefore, before you apply for it, you must obtain current application guidelines for each applicable year to be assured of your eligibility and other information such as deadline, application materials, and so on.
Scholarship awards :
1).Living Allowance: \180,000 per month
2).Tuition: Actual cost(not exceeding \3,000,000 per academic year)
3).Travel Expenses: Actual cost(not exceeding the limit for each fiscal year)
・ Number of Recipients : 13
・ Duration of Scholarship : Maximum of 2 years while taking master's degree course.
・ Method of Selection: Recipients will be selected by the Foundation's selection committee on the basis of an initial screening of application materials and subsequent interview conducted in Japanese. The Foundation will finalize the selection by the end of April.
・Documentation Requirements during the Scholarship Period: The recipients must submit the following documents during and at the end of the scholarship period:
1. Certificate of enrollment at the university (once every academic year)
2. Research report and abstract (once every academic year)
3. Report on student life (twice every academic year)
4. Certificate of academic records (once every academic year)
5. Final report
How to apply
(for the scholarship for Japanese students)
Eligibility for Application: Applicants must meet the following conditions:
1. Japanese nationals intending to enter a university or an equivalent organization in overseas as a regular student of a graduate program (either a master's or a pre-doctoral program). Field of research is not limited
2. Students with an exemplary academic record, of good character, and who demonstrate financial need.
3. Those who can enter a graduate program from January through the end of December of the applicable academic year.
4. Those who can attend an interview arranged to be held in November.
5. Those who can attend an orientation session after the selection as scholarship recipients of the Foundation.
6. Those age 29 or under as of April 1st of the applicable academic year are preferred, though it is not a requirement. (Those age 30 or over must state the reasons for starting their studies late.)
7. Those who reside in Japan.
*Any students intending to enter a doctoral program are not eligible. (However, candidates of a pre-doctoral program are eligible.)
*Any students intending to enter a diploma course are not eligible.
*The term "regular student" does not include research students, trainees, special students, audit students or exchange students.
*Those who will receive financial aid from other organizations are not eligible.
*We do not accept any applications from those living outside of Japan.
・Materials that should be prepared in advance.
1. Transcript of grades: You will be requested to submit official academic records of all schools which you attended after you graduated from high school (e.g. universities outside of Japan, 2-year colleges, vocational schools, language schools, technical colleges). A photocopy is not accepted unless it has an original official stamp or seal on it.
2.Certificate of foreign language proficiency
A: For those who plan to study in U.S.A. or U.K.
A score of TOEFL taken within two years. (Only those who plan to study in the U.K can submit a score of IELTS as an alternative)
B: For those who plan to study in France or Germany
A certificate of language proficiency and score reports of an examination administered by a public organization.
*Note: Not a few applications in the past lacked a part of the required documentation. Please be advised that incomplete materials will reflect negatively in the scholarship selection process, even if reasons for the deficiency are given. Therefore, it is recommended to prepare well in advance and make sure all materials are complete. However, if you have some compelling and understandable reason for omitting materials, please contact the Foundation offices.
* Application documentation other than A and B will be announced on the application guideline for each year.
How to obtain application form
To request the application form, please write to the address below with your name, address (including postal code), telephone number, and a short note of requesting "the application form for Japanese students". Please also enclose \140 in stamps for return postage (\410 for express mail).
*The application form will be available for distribution from early July until a week before the deadline. Please understand we cannot accept a request before June.
*The application form is in Japanese only.
*We do not respond to any inquiries or requests from overseas.
*If you are kind enough to prepare a stamped, self-addressed envelope for our reply, please use an envelope that is 240mm×332mm or larger.
