France: Pasteur Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Paris 2010

Overview

In collaboration with the Institut Pasteur, the Pasteur Foundation administers this program to bring U.S. postdoctoral researchers to work in Pasteur laboratories in Paris thanks to the generosity of our U.S. donors. Guided by the institute's administration which seeks to develop international exchanges to ensure the vitality of Institut Pasteur labs, this program is for A merican citizens and does not apply to candidates already in France . Fellowships are $70,000 ($55,000 fellowship plus $15,000 bench fees to support the research) per year for a term of three years and are not renewable. Financing for the second and third years is contingent upon positive annual review by the host lab head. Candidates are expected to c ommit to a three-year stay .

Application requirements

 1 COPY OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING:
 A passport-size photo,
 Reprints of candidate’s most significant publications (1 copy of each),
 2 sealed letters of recommendation addressed directly to the Direction de l’Évaluation Scientifique,
 A letter of support justifying the project from the head of the Pasteur department to be sent directly to the Direction de l’Évalutation Scientifique.


 13 COPIES OF EACH OF THE FOLLOWING:
 A letter of request from the sponsoring head of the host laboratory or unit at the Institut Pasteur. The first step is to identify a host laboratory head so that he or she may serve as your sponsor; a list of Institut Pasteur laboratories may be found at

 The host lab’s organizational chart of current personnel;
 Candidate’s Curriculum vitae (2 pages) with an indication of any current grants and/or funding (plus their origin and duration), and a list of publications;
 A synopsis of scientific accomplishments (3 pages);

 A brief description of the research program to be written by the candidate (3 pages), with emphasis on how this relates to the work-in-progress in the host unit or lab. The project must be described within the context of the actual international state of the subject (with three key bibliographic references), and must state the project’s objectives, experimental strategy and feasibility; *

 Summary of the research program (15 to 20 lines + a title and 5 key words) placed in the context of international competition with the project’s goals, experimental strategy and feasibility. **
