Overview
The ERIA/JENESYS Next Leaders Program Scholarship is offered by Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) to students from ASEAN countries. In 2009, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) was chosen as one of only four institutions in Japan to receive students under this prestigious scholarship. In addition to generous funding given to the recipients, they are also provided with internships midway through the program, as well as two special sessions held in Jakarta for the scholarship recipients.
Eligibility
(1) Nationality and Residence: Applicants must be nationals of ASEAN member countries (Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam).
(2) Age: Applicants must be under 35 years of age as of the 1st of April 2010.
(3) Major Field of Study: Applicants for The IMAT Program and PhD Program do not qualify. This scholarship gives priority to applicants for programs in the social sciences and humanities.
(4) Orientation: Scholars awarded this scholarship are required to attend an orientation prior to enrollment at APU, an internship during the 2011 summer break, and a reporting session at the end of the program, all of which are held at the ERIA Office in Jakarta, Indonesia. All travel expenses will be provided.

- A monthly subsistence allowance of 180,000 yen (*amount subject to change for 2010) to cover living expenses, including housing and books (*see (2) in "Notes")
- Medical insurance
- Economy class air travel between the home country and the host university at the start of the study program and one return journey following the end of the overall scholarship period. Air travel for all required trips to Jakarta will also be provided.

(2) Abstracts of previous theses or example of previous written work and/or list of research achievements to date
