UK: PhD Positions at University College London (UCL) 2010/11

Overview

Applications are invited for one PhD position to work on an Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), UK funded project. Environmental, financial and economic decisions in airport operations cannot be taken in isolation because choices made today will impact on the future decisions, and because we must account for the relationship between present and future outcomes of the decision process.

Working closely with Manchester Airport, the objective of the research is to develop an airports environment investment toolkit that considers the environmental, economic and financial impacts of key technological options in achieving lower lifecycle environmental and climate impacts and improving air quality in airport environments. It is anticipated that the toolkit will be a valuable design and planning decision-making tool for airport operators.

The optimal levels of investment of each intervention option and the creation of financial models to simulate actual portfolio of environmental investments will be developed at the Centre for Transport Studies of the University College London under the supervision of Dr. F. Medda. There will be opportunities for multi-disciplinary training of doctoral candidates with the University of Cambridge and the University of Manchester and close industrial collaboration in this project.
