Overview
These are 4 year studentships funded by the Medical Research Council which provide financial support for university and college fees and a stipend at a rate of £17,400 pa (08/09 rate) tax free.
Up to three PhD positions are available in the following areas:
1.Mechanisms Driving Blood Stem Cell Generation From Haemogenic Endothelium (Dr Marella de Bruijn)
2.Transcriptional Regulation of Haemopoietic Stem Cell Specification During Development (Dr Catherine Porcher)
3.The Role of Epigenetics in Normal and Abnormal Blood Formation (Professor Doug Higgs and Dr Richard Gibbons)
4.Systems Level Analysis of Stem Cell Fate Decisions (Professor Tariq Enver)
5.The Identificaton and Characterisation of Human Haematopoietic Stem and Progenitor Cells (Professor Sten-Eirik Jacobsen)
6.Building the Gene Regulatory Networks for Haematopoietic Stem Cell Development in Xenopus and Zebrafish (Professor Roger Patient)
7.Chromatin Organisation in Relation to Gene Expression (Dr Veronica Buckle)
The PhD positions may be preceded by an optional rotational year (duration will remain 4 years maximum) between these laboratories after which students may select their project, laboratory and supervisor. Alternatively students may choose a project and supervisor at the outset.
