Seven PhD positions in pharmaceutical sciences in the field of pharmacometrics
at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences
The applicants should be able to begin work in 2011.
Pharmacometric models describe the time course of disease and the effects of drugs on these time courses. The research group in Pharmacometrics is involved in methodological research concerning principles and approaches for the development and use of these types of models as well applied development and use of models in specific therapeutic areas to enhance the understanding of diseases and the effects of treatment in order to streamline the development of new drugs and improve therapy with existing medicine. Much of our research is done in international collaboration with universities and industry in Europe, USA, Africa, Asia and Australia. The research team is international, with >12 nations and many areas of expertise (pharmaceutical sciences, engineering sciences, medicine, statistics and mathematics) represented.
We now announce two PhD positions focusing on methodology (optimal experimental design and development of model construction methods for non-linear mixed effect models) and five PhD positions with a therapeutic area focus (cancer, diabetes, TB / HIV and multiple sclerosis). Applicants must have, or soon be expected to have, graduated from basic training in the appropriate area.

Selection of candidates will be made by the supervisor in consultation with the institution's research education group. The Medicine and Pharmacy Research Education Committee is the body that formally accepts the student. Salary is according to local guidelines at Uppsala University.
The holder of a PhD student position must primarily concentrate on his own research studies. Other departmental work including teaching and administrative work can be part of the position (maximum 20%). Provisions for students are contained in the Higher Education Ordinance (Högskoleförordningen) chapter 5, sections 1-7.
