Research Fellowship in Immune Cell Biology, Imperial College London

Overview

A Research Associate (Research Fellowship in Immune Cell Biology) position is available as soon as possible, for up to 34 months, sponsored by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC). This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary team using novel and state-of-the-art microscopy for studying immune cell biology.

Salary £31,300 per annum

The project will be based in Professor Dan Davis’s laboratory in Imperial College London, based at the South Kensington campus, specialising in imaging immune cell interactions. This project involves using fluorescence microscope technologies to study fundamental properties of T cell and/or Natural Killer cell immune synapses with a view to applying this knowledge to the design of drugs or therapeutic antibodies.

You should have a PhD, preferably in Biology or a related biomedical science, Immunology, Physics, or equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience. You must have relevant laboratory experience in fluorescence imaging and/or cell or molecular biology, and proven evidence of an ability to carry out important science is essential. Knowledge of advanced microscopy, creating constructs for expression of proteins in cell lines, assays of immune cell function techniques and basic immunology are essential. You must have experience in some or all of the following techniques: Basic confocal microscopy, High-level advanced microscopy, including super-resolution techniques, basic cell biological assays and common immune cell assays. Experience in computer software for image analysis and studying basic cell biology is desirable.


A creative approach to problem solving, the ability to develop and apply new concepts and to work proactively within an agreed programme and to tight deadlines are essential. You must have the ability to carry out important research and have a successful track record in academic publications e.g. through strong publications list. You must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deal with a wide range of people and the ability to write clearly and succinctly for publication. You must also be willing to work as part of a team and have a flexible attitude to work.
