Chevening Scholarship Scheme for Palestinian Students

Overview

Chevening is a distinguished scholarship scheme which enables outstanding Palestinian graduates to study in the UK.

Scholarships are available to Palestinian nationals for postgraduate study in the UK for 3 to 12 months. The scholarship aims to bring tomorrow’s leaders from the Palestinian Territories to undertake their Masters degree in the UK. All applications are considered, however priority is given to study related to public policy, governance, politics and media

Selection Criteria

Competition for Chevening scholarships is intense. A typical successful applicant would be:

Ø A graduate with proven academic skills

Ø Committed to return to the Palestinian Territories andcontribute to the socio-economic and/or political development through implementing new skills and knowledge acquired in the UK

Ø Be able to show at interview that they possess the personal qualities to benefit from their scholarship and use it to succeed in their chosen career

Ø Have a clear idea how their scholarship will benefit the Palestinian Territories on their return with the potential to rise to senior and influential positions in the public or private sectors

Ø Have excellent English Language skills, that will meet the entry requirements for admission onto Postgraduate courses in the UK

Ø Applicants should be Palestinian nationals currently living in the Palestinian Territories

Ø Preference is given to candidates who have a proven track record of success or excellence in their professional life, and who display intellectual ability and leadership potential

Ø Preference will be given to applicants who have never studied in the UK

Ø Preference is given to Masters candidates. PhD candidates will not be considered

Ø We welcome applications for scholarships to studythroughout the UK .




How do I apply?

Ø We strongly encourage you to do substantial initial research on your study in the UK to choose the right courses and universities suitable for your future career development. The British Council can provide some advice on this field http://www.educationuk.org/

You will be asked to justify your choices of courses at the interview.

Ø Applications will ONLY be accepted via the online application system located on the British Council website

Ø In your application you will be asked to list contact details for two referees. Referees should be professional and/or academic. References are not required with the application form

Ø You must indicate which courses and institutions you would like to attend on your application form. You are strongly advised to apply to those institutions before receiving an award, as places on popular courses fill early

Ø IELTS is an entry requirement for universities in the UK, most require a minimum score of 6.5. If you have not yet taken IELTS you can still apply for Chevening. TOEFL is also accepted.

Ø The word limit for the personal statement is 1,000 words

Ø Refer to the e-Chevening Guidelines .

What does the scholarship cover?

Ø Tuition fees

Ø A monthly allowance

Ø Student visa costs

Ø Pre-departure briefing from the British Council

Scholarships do not cover the costs for accompanying family

Interviews

The FCO makes the final decision on applications for Chevening scholarships. Candidates are assessed on academic merit; achievements to date both in and outside of the academic and workplace areas; referees' letters; proposed area of study and future career in line with FCO priority areas; leadership potential and potential to further strengthen the UK- Palestinian bilateral relationship.
