UK: Stokes Research Fellowship in mathematics or physical sciences 2010

Overview

Pembroke College intends to elect not later than 1 March 2010 to a postdoctoral Stokes Research Fellowship if candidates of sufficient merit present themselves. The Fellowship is in the fields of Mathematics and the Physical Sciences. Candidates must be graduates: some experience of postdoctoral research will normally be expected. The tenure of the Fellowship will be for three years from 1 October 2010. The holder will be expected to do a limited amount of teaching for the College but would require the permission of the Governing Body to undertake other paid work.

Value of the fellowship

The stipend will be fixed within the University scale according to age and experience, and in the region of £26,392: this will be subject to any revisions of stipends taking place between now and 1 October 2010. A single Research Fellow is offered free rooms in College; there are also free meals in Hall.

Applications should reach the Senior Tutor's Assistant by 1 December 2009. The College expects to reach its decision by early March 2010. Applications should include the following information:-

1.The usual personal particulars, and a short account of the applicant's academic record and career so far, including a note of any other appointments for which applications are being made.



2.An explanation of the nature of the applicant's research in about 1,000 words of non-technical language, a brief statement of any future research project, together with a statement of published and unpublished work; the work itself should be available to the Electors shortly after the closing date but should not be sent until requested.

3.The names of two persons well acquainted with the applicant personally and academically who have agreed to write in support of the application (Notes for referees).

Applications should only be made on forms available here or from The Senior Tutor's Assistant, Pembroke College, Cambridge CB2 1RF (sally.clowes@pem.cam.ac.uk). All requested material may be sent by e-mail but a signed copy of the application form, must also be submitted by post. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
