USA: 2010 California Redevelopment Association (CRA) - William A. Carlson Fellowship Program

Overview

The William A. Carlson Fellowship Program was established to recognize the contributions of William A. Carlson, past Executive Director, of the California Redevelopment Association (CRA).

The Fellowship Program offers students an opportunity to learn about the field of redevelopment as a career opportunity in the public sector. Applicants must be interested in a career in the public sector in Redevelopment, Community Development, Economic Development, Planning, Housing, or a related field.

Students will be given the opportunity to attend the California Redevelopment Association’s Annual Conference, March 10-12, 2010, in Pasadena or one of the Association’s two Redevelopment Institutes held in May and July at no cost (includes registration, hotel, travel, and meal expenses).


Who Should Apply

California college students pursuing a graduate degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Planning, Real Estate, Urban Studies, or a related field.


Application Packet

A completed application packet must include the following:


Application

Written Essay: Describe your interests and why you want to pursue a career in the public sector in redevelopment, community development, economic development, housing, planning, or a closely related field. (Not to exceed 500 words.)


Letters of Recommendation: Request letters from three references, preferably at least one college faculty member and one from a past or present employer. Each reference letter must be written on official stationary (if applicable) to CRA sealed in an envelope with an original signature.


Transcripts: Provide transcript of record from each college or university attended. Copies of official transcripts are acceptable, as are unofficial transcripts that are downloaded from the Internet. Please note, however, that Internet-generated transcripts must include the student’s name in the printed document. To insure confidentiality of your personal information, please remove or obliterate your Social Security number if it appears on your transcript(s).

Deadline

The deadline to submit an application is December 11, 2009.

Selection of up to three winning applicants will be made in January, 2010.
