Overview
Individuals selected for fellowships conduct independent research in ETS offices in Princeton, N.J. A wide variety of research is acceptable including:
•measurement theory
•validity
•natural language processing and computational linguistics
•cognitive psychology
•learning theory
•linguistics
•speech recognition and processing
•teaching and classroom research
•statistics
Program Goals
•Provide research opportunities to individuals who hold a doctorate in the fields indicated above.
•Increase the number of professionals from diverse backgrounds — especially traditionally underrepresented groups such as African Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, and American Indians — conducting research in educational measurement and related fields.
Award Duration
The fellowship is for a period of up to two years, renewable after the first year by mutual agreement.
Award Value
•$55,000 stipend
•Limited relocation reimbursement expenses
Eligibility
•Doctorate in a relevant discipline within the past 3 years
•Evidence of prior research
Selection
Selection is based on a candidate's scholarship and the technical strength of the proposed research topic. Another key factor is the explicit objective of the research and its relationship to ETS research goals and priorities. ETS affirmative action objectives are considered.
How to Apply
All application materials should be submitted electronically as attachments (preferably as PDF files) via e-mail.
Prior to sending other material, you will need to send a one-page abstract about your research and a letter of interest. Your research should relate to current ETS research. For information about research studies under way at ETS, see the ETS Research Agenda (PDF).
If your abstract is approved, you will be invited to submit the following materials:
a detailed proposal (approximately five double-spaced pages) describing the research that will be carried out at ETS and how it relates to current ETS research
a current curriculum vita
official graduate academic transcripts (see below for mailing address)
samples of published research
names and e-mail addresses of three individuals who are familiar with your work and who are willing to complete a recommendation form, which will be sent to them electronically
