Overview
The Sylvia Taylor Johnson Minority Fellowship is part of the postdoctoral fellowship program at ETS. Sylvia Taylor Johnson had a significant influence nationally on educational measurement and assessment through her research, extensive writings, and service to the educational community as an educator, editor, counselor, committee member, and collaborator. In honor of Dr. Johnson's important contributions to the field of education, ETS has established the Sylvia Taylor Johnson Minority Fellowship in Educational Measurement.
Program Goals
•Promote excellence
•Encourage original and significant research for early-career scholars
•Provide talented scholars from diverse backgrounds — especially traditionally underrepresented groups such as African Americans, Hispanic/Latino Americans, and American Indians — an opportunity to carry out independent research under the mentorship of ETS senior researchers
Studies concerning the education of minority students are especially encouraged. Topics should focus on the following areas:
•measurement theory
•validity
•natural language processing and computational linguistics
•cognitive psychology
•learning theory
•linguistics
•speech recognition and processing
•teaching and classroom research
•statistics
Award Duration
The fellowship is for a period of up to 2 years, renewable after the first year by mutual agreement.
Award Value
•The stipend is set in relation to the compensation applicants receive at their home institution.
•Limited relocation reimbursement expenses
Eligibility
•Doctorate received within the past ten years
•U.S. citizen or permanent resident

Selection will be based on the scholar's
•record of accomplishment
•proposed topic of research
•commitment to education

detailed proposal (approximately 5 double-spaced pages in length) of the type of research the applicant will conduct at ETS
current curriculum vita
the names and e-mail addresses of 3 individuals who are familiar with your work and who will complete a recommendation form, which will be sent to them electronically
samples of published research
official graduate academic transcripts (see below for mailing address)
