USA: The Beinecke Scholarship Program at Stanford University

Overview

For graduate study in the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences, this scholarship enables highly motivated students of exceptional promise to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study.

Eligibility Criteria

The Beinecke Scholarship Program is by nomination through Stanford only. A committee of UAR staff and Stanford faculty will review applications and select one finalist.

-Junior who is pursuing a bachelor's degree during the 2009-10 academic year. *Junior status means you are continuing full-time undergraduate study and expect to -receive a baccalaureate degree between Dec 2010 and Aug 2011.
-Major in humanities, social sciences or the arts
-Intention to enter a master's or doctoral program in the arts, humanities or social sciences
-Demonstrated superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement
US citizen or US national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
-Documented history of receiving need-based financial aid during undergraduate education
-Complete application


Campus Deadline: January 25, 2010
Information Meeting: November 17, 2009; 1-2pm at Meyer Forum
Official Announcement

Award: A total of $34,000 for graduate education; $4000 of the total may be applied to costs associated with undergraduate program of study


How to Apply

The following steps must be completed for an application to be considered for campus nomination:

- Register with UAR to participate in the campus competition
- Consult with Beinecke campus advisors regarding the content and writing of your statement of purpose
- Assemble an application package consisting of:
- Download (http://ual.stanford.edu/pdf/bs18b_application_form_2010.doc)and complete Application Form
- Download(http://ual.stanford.edu/pdf/bs19_financial_aid_form_2010.pdf) and complete Financial Aid Form
- Current resume
- Request three letters of recommendation
- Official transcript
- Personal statement (1,000 words or less) describing an applicant's background, interests, plans for graduate student, and career aspirations. Include experiences that have helped shape those interests, plans, and aspirations.
- Submit complete application package to Undergraduate Advising and Research, 1st floor Sweet Hall.
