Overview
Up to 13 China Scholarship Council-University of Leeds Scholarships are available for high quality international students who will be commencing PhD research study from Session 2010-2011 for study in specified areas of research at the University of Leeds.
Eligibility Criteria
• Applicants MUST first submit a research degree study application form for Session 2010-11 and be in receipt of a University BANNER ID Number to be eligible for a China Scholarship Council-University of Leeds Scholarship. • These awards are only available to applicants who would be liable to pay academic fees at the full international fee rate;
• These awards are only available to citizens and permanent residents of the People’s Republic of China at the time of application;
• Applicants should not be currently working or studying outside China at the time of application and must agree to return to China upon completion of their PhD research degree at the University of Leeds;
• Applicants must satisfy the selection criteria set out by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) by completing the CSC Application Form and CSC Employer Reference Form which can be found at http://www.csc.edu.cn;
• Applicants must hold a First Degree at undergraduate level equivalent to at least a UK First Class Honours degree. Applicants should either have graduated with the appropriate First Degree or be in their final year of study;
• Applicants whose first language is not English must meet the University’s English Language requirements. Some Schools require a standard of English higher than the University minimum;
• Applicants must be studying or working at one of the eligible Universities (see page 2):
• Applicants should wish to undertake PhD research study in specified areas of research at the University of Leeds (see page 3);
• These awards are not open to individuals who have already been awarded a Doctoral degree or equivalent qualification;
• Applicants must not hold another Scholarship (other than a China Scholarship Council scholarship)
Regulations
These include the following (full information on the regulations will be sent to all successful applicants):
• Awards must be taken up on 1 October 2010;
• The awards are available for new research students undertaking full-time study at the University of Leeds leading to the degree of PhD.
• The award will cover full international fees. The China Scholarship Council will pay a maintenance grant, return economy air travel to and from the UK and visa application fees;
• The award will be made for one year in the first instance and renewable for a further period of up to two years, subject to satisfactory academic progress;
• Applicants must live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds whilst in receipt of this Scholarship.
Method of Application
· Applicants must complete all sections of the University Postgraduate Research Scholarship Application Form, using the space provided on the form and with strict observation of any word limits. Attachments are not permitted and all will be disregarded.
· The completed form should be returned to the Postgraduate Scholarships Office, Marjorie & Arnold Ziff Building, University of Leeds, Leeds LS2 9JT by no later than 8 January 2010 or by email to pg_scholarships@leeds.ac.uk
