Overview
Applications are invited for an Ernest Oppenheimer Early Career Research Fellowship to be held at Cambridge University in Colloid Science as broadly interpreted within the fields of biology, surface chemistry, materials science and nanotechnology. These Fellowships are intended to provide an opportunity for independent research, though the holders usually work in collaboration with an established research group. Applications are encouraged from individuals who have completed or expect to have completed a PhD by 1 October 2010, as well as from those who have spent a cumulative total of not more than three years in post-doctoral research.
This appointment will commence normally from 1 October 2010. A contribution may be made towards travel and removal expenses, and up to £10k p.a. will be made available for research expenses.
Application Requirements
Applications (on paper) should reach the Secretary of the Committee of Management, School of Physical Sciences, 17 Mill Lane, Cambridge CB2 1RX by the closing date and should be accompanied by 10 copies of:
(a) CV (no more than 3 pages) including academic career, qualifications (with class of degree and position in course as x/y), any relevant teaching experience; list of papers published and in press.
(b) Two statements of up to 1,000 words each, describing respectively the applicant's previous and current research, and the proposed research programme.
(c)The names, addresses and e-mail addresses of two persons (only) who would be willing to give a confidential assessment of the applicant's research to the Committee of Management, at least one of whom should be an external referee. Candidates are requested to ask their referees to write direct to the Secretary by the closing date.
(d) The written approval of the Head of the Department in Cambridge in which the applicant hopes to work

The Committee of Management hope to make a decision by the beginning of March 2010.
