The University of New South Wales offers the following prestigious scholarships to international students of exceptional research potential to undertake a higher degree by research at the University of New South Wales in 2011 (Only one application is required for the UNSW International Research Scholarships; applicants will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible):

Tuition Fee Scholarship
Scholarships available for PhD, Masters by Research and Masters of Philosophy (in selected disciplines depending on Faculty research areas). This scholarship is only available to students who are sponsored by their home country with a living allowance/stipend with a minimum value of $10,000 per annum.
If you are applying in the discipline areas of Engineering, Business, Science or Humanities and Social Sciences and would like to be considered for a scholarship place at both the Kensington Campus (Sydney) and UNSW@ADFA Campus (Canberra), please indicate this on the scholarship application form.
Benefits
1. International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS)
This scholarship is funded by Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and UNSW and managed by UNSW.
The IPRS provides the following benefits:
-Payment of Tuition Fees and an annual stipend of $22,500 (in addition some Faculties may provide a supplementary scholarship for the top ranked applicants) provided for 3 years for a PhD and 2 years for a Masters by Research.
-Payment of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) (for the student and their dependants)
-Waiver of Visa Charges (by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) at the time of Visa application)
NSW Government Travel Concession
Exemption from NSW Government State School Fees for children of the student (current NSW Government policy as at June 2008. Please check the UNSW International website for up-to-date information)
Priority for accommodation in the New College Village @ UNSW.
The University may grant PhD IPRS holders an extension of a maximum of 6 months if their research is adversely affected by circumstances beyond their control and provided the candidate is making satisfactory progress. No extensions are possible for Masters by Research students.
The duration of any of the scholarships will be reduced by any periods of study undertaken towards the degree prior to the commencement of the scholarship and during suspension of the scholarship.

Eligibility
Full details of all the eligibility requirements can be found in the S1 2011 Application Guidelines. All students must read these Guidelines prior to lodging an application.
Applications are open to citizens of all overseas countries (excluding applicants with Australian or New Zealand citizenship or Australian permanent resident status) who are proposing to undertake full-time study for a higher research degree at UNSW.
To be eligible for a UNSW International Research Scholarship, a student must:
-be an international student; and
-meet international student visa requirements as specified by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), including the requirement to purchase and maintain a standard Overseas Student Health Cover policy approved by the Commonwealth Government Department of Health and Ageing.
Please note: Tuition Fee Remission Scholarships are only available to students who are sponsored by their home country with a living allowance/stipend of minimum value $10,000 per annum and who include the letter of offer from their home country with the application.
Qualification Equivalence
Candidates who do not hold a Bachelor degree with Honours 1 may be considered to have equivalent qualifications if they have demonstrated research performance, relevant professional or direct research experience, for example:
•Publication of research papers e.g.
(a) A published book or chapter in an edited book
(b) A published research article in a refereed international journal
(c) A published or refereed conference paper, a published or refereed presenting author abstract or a published research report
•Have held membership or fellowship of prestigious learned professional organisations by advanced study, examination and professional practice
•Exhibition
(a) Of international standard in multiple venues, or a series of performances for which reviews in significant outlets are available (with a published catalogue/program)
(b) In a public gallery or museum or in a private gallery of standing in which the artist was invited to exhibit (with a published catalogue)
(c) Visual work(s) held in significant national or international collections or commissioned by Government or the corporate sector
•Relevant professional experience at a responsible level or direct research experience of at least two years since graduation (eg) industry appointment.
