Overview
The DISCOVERY center (http://discoverycenter.dk) at the Niels Bohr Institute, Copenhagen University, invites applications for 3 Ph.D. research studentships in Experimental Particle Physics in the framework of the ATLAS experiment, with starting date not earlier than March 1st 2011 and not later than July 2011.
The research activities in ATLAS include hadron production, electro-weak physics and searches for Higgs and BSM particles. The NBI ATLAS group has furthermore responsibilities in the TRT and trigger systems.
The NBI ATLAS group is currently composed of about 20 members and is part of the newly started DISCOVERY center which provides a very lively and stimulating interaction between related disciplines, including particle physics phenomenology, heavy ion physics and cosmology.
A Ph.D. studentship is for 3 years, if the applicant has completed a Master degree in physics by mid-February, but can also be for 4 years, if the applicant has not yet begun a Master project. Terms of appointment and salary are set by agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Association of Academics in the State (AC). The studentships are funded by the Danish Foundation for Basic Research, the Danish Research Council for Natural Sciences and the Lundbeck foundation.
- Applications should be submitted by 21th of January, 2011, and should include:
- A statement of research interests (max. 2 pages).
- Transcript of exams passed (the Master degree may be submitted with a delay of up to two weeks.)
- CV, including prior computing and research experience (max. 2 pages)
- 2-3 letters of reference.
Applications and letters of reference should be sent by Email to Professor Peter Hansen, phansen@nbi.dk. Applicants can expect a final response by middle of February 2011.
The University of Copenhagen wishes to reflect the diversity of society and welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background.
