Overview
The Vienna Graduate Program on Complex Quantum Systems (CoQuS) provides graduate education dominantly through intense research training and through advanced courses in one of the most active fields of modern physics.
In particular in recent years, many new ideas for future quantum technologies could already be demonstrated in the lab.
The Vienna doctoral program on Complex Quantum Systems offers PhD research and training opportunities in the following fields:
•Fundamental tests of physics
•Quantum information concepts and implementations
•Matter wave interferometry: foundations and applications
•Quantum technology on the nanoscale
•Quantum physics in the solid state
•Cold quantum gases & atom chips
•Entanglement of massive particles
•Hybrid quantum systems
•Strongly correlated quantum systems
The program provides the opportunity for highly gifted students to obtain a broad and interdisciplinary education in many of these fields and to prove themselves in cutting edge research.
Your benefit
The Vienna graduate program provides financial support for up to three years. Doctoral students admitted to the CoQuS program will have a regular employment at their hosting University.
The employment includes:
•A gross salary of about 1850 €/month (this incl. tax & health benefits)
•A tuition waiver
The graduate program will also provide support for
•Travel to scientific work shops, schools and conferences
•Exchange program to partner universities
•Soft skill trainings & language courses
The number of places in this excellence program is limited. The faculty members will select new students according to their academic excellence, scientific achievements and expected potential for future research.
Admission procedure
Students are requested to submit all of the following documents:
•Completed admission form: please download, complete and sign (!) the application form
•Curriculum vitae (CV)
•List of publications in scientific journals, poster contributions and talks at national and international meetings (if already applicable)
•All graded study records (if you feel it helps, even down to high school)
•Statement of interest: why do you feel to be the right person for CoQuS?
•Information about the candidate’s proficiency in English
The application deadline is on January 15
We ask the applicants to submit all of the above mentioned documents as single PDF files to canan.goeser@univie.ac.at.
All documents should be in English. German certificates do not need to be translated.
In addition:
At least 2 letters of recommendation and the reommender's question form will be required. They will only be accepted if they are sent by the recommenders themselves (not the students!) as attached pdf files to the CoQuS secretary Ms. Canan Göser: canan.goeser@univie.ac.at
