Located in one of Europe's most elegant capital cities, Budapest, accredited in both the USA and Europe, Central European University (CEU) offers a uniquely international atmosphere of academic excellence, critical reflection, and social engagement.
In order to attract outstanding individuals irrespective of their financial situation CEU offers a range of Financial Aid packages supporting the majority of our students during their studies. The main types of CEU Financial Aid include:
CEU Fellowships for Master’s students (full and partial)
CEU Doctoral Fellowships for most students pursuing PhD degrees
Master's Scholarship
CEU awards an extensive range of financial packages to support students on Master’s programs.
CEU Fellowship Awards for Master’s students come in two packages: Full Fellowship and Partial Fellowship. In both cases, award recipients are eligible for a monthly stipend and accommodation in the CEU Residence Center for the duration of their degree program. Stipends are issued for the length of each academic program in Academic Year 2010/2011. Note: in two year programs it does not cover the months of July and August of the first year.
The Full CEU Fellowship
Covers tuition and medical insurance. In addition, full fellowship recipients are awarded a monthly stipend of 96,000 HUF and accommodation in the CEU Residence Center, which is covered directly by the university. The monthly stipend is calculated to cover essential costs. Students need to budget additionally for travel, recreation, and incidentals, which can vary with the individual. Read more about the
Eligibility requirements for Master’s programs
Applicants must have a first degree from a recognized university or institution of higher education, or provide documentation indicating that they will earn such a first degree before enrolment in a CEU Master's program.
For its one-year US accredited Master’s programs, CEU normally accepts students who have completed four years of undergraduate university study. Applicants with a three-year Bachelor's degree will be considered for two-year Master's programs (both for the ones accredited in the US and in Hungary).
Admission into the US accredited one-year programs with a three-year Bachelor’s degree will also be possible for suitable candidates.
PhD Scholarship
CEU offers a competitive package to aid students on doctoral programs. Applying for a CEU doctoral program, you are automatically considered for Full Doctoral Fellowship. Students admitted into CEU doctoral degree programs are eligible to receive the Full CEU Doctoral Fellowship for up to three years.
The Full CEU Doctoral Fellowship
Covers tuition and medical insurance. In addition, full fellowship recipients are awarded a monthly stipend of 200,000 HUF calculated to cover educational and accommodation costs (Economics PhD students receive a monthly stipend of 250,000 HUF). Students need to budget additionally for travel, recreation, and incidentals, which can vary with the individual.
Eligibility requirements for doctoral programs
Applicants must have a Master's degree (or equivalent) in a related field from a recognized university or institution of higher education, or provide documentation indicating that they will earn such a degree before enrolment in a CEU doctoral course of study.
Students enrolled in a doctoral program at CEU must not be simultanously enrolled in other institutions of higher education, and are required, at the beginning of their studies at CEU, to sign a declaration to this effect.
